Richard Theilmann – Stolen Valor

Further to our recent investigation into the Source A / Richard Theilmann affair, we can now reveal further confirmation of Theilmann’s fake military history. Our most recent update, A Litany of Lies, highlighted the response letter from the National Personnel Records Center stating there were no military records for Richard Theilmann. In addition to filing the request to the NPRC, Reality Uncovered investigator ‘Wormwood’ also contacted a number of other official organisations, including:

Naval Reserve Personnel Center in New Orleans
Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington
VA Insurance Office
Department of Veterans Affairs
Servicemen Group Life Insurance

None of which had any record for Richard Theilmann.

In addition to there being no material evidence of Richard Theilmann’s military history, we were also contacted by members of his family who told us the same thing; he had never served in any capacity in the United States Military. The identities of these family members have been checked and verified using official documentation and records. There could no longer be any doubt as to the seriousness of these implications.

We contacted the New York office of the FBI and informed them of our findings. We also contacted several other organisations, including the commander of the NY Commandery of the Naval Order of the United States, Bill Schmidt. The NY commandery being the principle organisation where Richard Theilmann had been photographed displaying the uniform and medals he had no right to wear.

Mr. Schmidt, a retired Bergen County Prosecutor and US Navy Vietnam veteran, was shocked by our findings and launched a full internal investigation. At the conclusion of this investigation, Mr. Schmidt found it necessary to contact the NCIS, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Needless to say, he is outraged by what he has discovered.

In response to questions from Andy Murray regarding his membership of the order, Mr Schmidt wrote: “Theilmann was never a member of Naval Order of the United States. Not on NY Commandery roster or mailing list and not on national roster. Apparently he just started showing up, became accepted, acted like he was a member and wore uniform and medals. Who is going to question validity of uniform, rank, medals when someone walks into a group of Navy & Marine Corps veterans and call them a fraud? No one.”

Clearly, it wasn’t only UFO buffs that Theilmann had managed to dupe.

Andy (Murray) has been in regular contact with the FBI Special Agent who is running the official investigation into this case. He has confirmed to Andy that this is indeed a case of stolen valor and Richard Theilmann certainly does not have a military record. Anyone who wishes to confirm this for themselves is welcome to get in touch with the New York office of the FBI.

There is further information in this case that is pending further verification and investigation and will be published in due course.

I will be looking forward to reading the reaction of Michael Salla and Robert Morningstar to this news (and some of the hardline denialists at OMF). Will they continue their full denial mode? Kudos to the RU and Amkon investigation teams. This has been quite enlightening and certainly raises some questions about the complete lack of credibility of many of the people with prominent public profiles in the UFO community.

Hopefully this investigation will result in some changes in the way that people approach some of these dubious claims.

I would also encourage any veterans out there who are angry about this horrible case of Stolen Valor to contact the New York FBI office and let them know how you feel about a man walking around wearing someone else’s military Uniform and Medals. In respect for all veterans, we should all take a serious stand against this kind of despicable behavior.

I can hear them now…..’He was erased! His files were destroyed! Family members were coerced to say those things!”……lol.

Some people will defend this case of stolen valor with such speculations just because they fell for the hoax so deeply. That is an internet meme at it’s best.

Although I never paid any attention to the old “Source A” thread, Andy and the rest of the ‘investigative team’ are 100 percent responsible for bringing this (now, finally!) interesting case to my attention.

Good job guys, and personally I still think this case may be more important than ‘stolen valor’ — although that remains to be determined. Certainly the methods involved in this affair demonstrate a weakness that could easily have been exploited by unfriendly intelligence services.

At this point, I think your team should consider bringing the investigation to the attention of mainstream media sources, if you have not already done so.

    Questions remain:

The alleged meeting at Dahlgren and access to the base
    Theilmann’s Motivation
The possibility of elicitation or observation of persons of interest
Possible involvement of other supporting characters
    Etc.

I have been in rooms full of the Navy, retired and active. Conversation always turns to ” what ship did you serve on and when”. It is hard for me to believe that not one sailor who looked at that chest of medals thought ” something is not quite right here “.

You have to hand it to to the guy, its hard to keep that many lies in the air at once!

Thanks Gary…much appreciated….I tend to agree about mainstream….this is being addressed.

Yes…the base issues is a doozie…but I believe the professionals are the only ones that can truly answer those questions….and one would think it would be a Nation Security concern, as well as personal security concern given an incident like Ft Hood.

Motivation…I only have a theory that he lied because of low self esteem….pathological liars etc…
    http://healthmad.com/mental-health/how-to-spot-a-pathological-liar/
It is just my opinion…I’m not a mental health professional
Not sure about persons of interest….I don’t think there really are any in this case….but perhaps I misunderstand you the type of person you refer to. There are interesting people involved…lol.

The motivation of supporting characters….excellent question that could probably be the subject of a short book.

    Thanks again Gary

    To Doc,

Lily has made a claim about ME. I request that Lily presents the evidence to back her statement. As a MUFON certified field investigator that request should not pose a problem for her. If you or anyone else attempts to railroad that request it is going to reflect extremely poorly on the MODs.

Very good work, Andy, Ryan and team. It is so encouraging to see fact and fiction being separate lines. While fiction may meet fact, fact never meets up with fiction. Basing theories on a false God doesn’t serve anyone and only drives open minds away. There remain additional frauds in the UFO community, but “outing” this one has established major strides in the right direction. It is a great pleasure watching you volunteer to your community while always putting your family, your loving children, as number one. Keep up the great work. The world will be a better place because of individuals like you. May you enjoy the perfect wave!

The US Navy and ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) and the CIA would have been alerted of “Source A” within hours of the first published articles concerning this affair in 2008 – two years and four months ago.

A quick investigation would have determined exactly who “Source A” is and virtually everything about him. A simple data clerk could determine “Stolen Valor”, notify the authorities, and ScA/RT would have been Charged, Tried and Judged long ago. Off the streets! And we would have never heard of him again.

ScA/RT never would have been accepted at any Navy League or Naval Order meetings again. All recent pictures of him at such meetings wouldn’t even exist. This entire affair wouldn’t be talked about. These published reports of yours would not exist.

You may have managed to convince a small but sufficient following in your cause, to believe that your technologically advanced Googling & Email Techniques are more advanced than what the ONI or CIA would have been able to determine 28 months ago, but to most critical thinkers such is preposterous.

By your own rationale your “Stolen Valor/Hoaxer/Con” conclusions are inherently

    BUSTED

Does he believe this BS ?, does he expect anyone else to ?

Lets just assume they were alerted……alerted to what ?

There was no name, no identity just a couple of bartenders posting obvious Sci Fi, on a forum with a history of being home sweet home to hoaxes.

There was no name to check…..Until recently, and now the authoritys are looking into it.

Thats the reality, thats what happened/is happening.

Even if they took the Pickles Sci Fi seriously, what could they have done, checked / hacked Om and traced the IP’s, IP’s that most likely led to cybercafes in NY…… how would they find the “source”

And why would they bother, another obvious hoax on a site renowned for these sorts of hoax’s …….

But you keep building your tower of fantasy jake, all the further to fall when the time comes.

What you post does not make sense, but then everyone knows this.
yeah right they were onto this 2 years ago, onto WHAT ? a crappy sci fi story spun by a pair of lunatic fringe bartenders.

You are wrong jake, just as you were wrong about the photoshopped nametag.
“Oh it must be photoshopped its the only handwritten tag there, this tells us something……” and then later when more handwritten tags showed up, and 11A’s analysis showed it to be un doctored.

The same thing is going to happen here you snake oil salesman.
More facts will emerge in time that will yet again prove you wrong

The best predictor of this is the past, youve been dead wrong before and your dead wrong this time, but keep posting your delusions while you wait for the facts to catch up…… it will make your fall all the more spectacular

There were four known names within the first few weeks following publishing of the first articles in 2008.

Clay & Shawn Pickering, Michael Salla and Robert Morningstar. They could easily be located and contacted. A simple local Police Detective could do the errands for the US Navy, ONI and/or CIA. ScA/RT could be identified in a day. From there the Navy, ONI and CIA have significantly more investigative resources than Googling and Email. They would have known everything about ScA/RT and the store where he bought his last pair of shoes, 28 months ago.

    Now that we are in June 2010, the most logical question to ask is;

Why and by what authority was ScA/RT permitted to continue?

Your assuming the crappy sci fi Bullshit they were posting was worthy of anyones attention

Obviously it wasnt, by your own logic and criteria, they didnt bother because it was just a silly story.
They didnt bother because hes not what they said he was, its just another lunatic fringe story

Until…….proof positive that he was guilty of Stolen Valor, a crime. and now they are involved

Telling silly sci fi storys is not a crime hence no investigation, evidence of Stolen Valor , a crime hence the FBI’s recent involvement

You’d have to be blind or stupid or both ,not to see the Reality

@Jake, “Why and by what authority was ScA/RT permitted to continue?”

That’s easy… on authority of the management of OM by banning or otherwise suppressing in a cult-like fashion anyone who asked the really tough questions or doubted the veracity of the Pickerings and their “secret” source.

    Why? You tell me…

    Any more questions?

Absolutely, without the staff at Open Minds the Source A story would have died at its inception.

@JakeReason or is it Rick Davis or is it Richard W Davis or is it Ricky Palmer Davis, or is it quite possibly none of the above? You have, after all, used all of those names in your time at Open Minds. Does it depend on the time of day which name you go with?

Why anyone from the Navy would have wanted to investigate this nonsense in an official capacity is anyone’s guess. You attach great importance to the Source A story, because you have an agenda to push. There needs to be an official interest in your mind because otherwise your flimsy house of cards is destroyed by the first gentle breeze that comes its way.

If anyone from the Navy had seen this story at the start – which I very much doubt btw – they would have immediately known it was a load of nonsense because of one simple thing: The UFO “coverup” exists only in your head. Sure, people like you and Exopolitics NEED there to be a coverup, because otherwise there is absolutely no reason for their existence. How else would they sell their courses, their books, their DVD’s, their speaking engagements, their radio appearances, tv appearances, magazine articles etc.?

Furthermore, without there being the need for a coverup, how would you and your best friends at Scammers Inc, one of whom we have since discovered is DIRECTLY INVOLVED in the Source A story, benefit from the hoodwinking of all those potential investors? You are an enabler for stories like this to flourish. You open the door and guide the gullible in their direction.

What you and your friends are doing at Open Minds is creating a battlefield of confusion. You completely ignore verifiable evidence that blows this story out of the water and you replace it with complete and utter garbage with the sole intention of blindsiding your readers and thus creating an element of doubt in their minds. You don’t really care how much evidence we present that proves Theilmann is a fraud, you will spin it, twist it and make it into something it is not. He could confess, he could spend time in jail, every single member of his family could come out and say he is a pathological liar and he needs help, but you and your sock-wearing friends will simply chortle and say it’s all part of the plan.

That you think no one has seen through this charade is what I find most amusing. BUSTED is right.

    You have been.

Dunno about busted, but Theilmann has been picked up for questioning, according to OM……

“It has just been discovered through a conversation with the Pickering brothers that Richard Theilmann has been picked up by the FBI and brought in for questioning. The Pickerings have indicated that they do not have any further comments at this time other then to say that “The Pickering brothers, Bob Morningstar and Bob Vanderclock maintain complete confidence in Source A’s credibility.”

Irrespective of what happens now, the fact it is being reported he has been taken in for questioning is enough to knock the ridiculous IC theory on its head once and for all.

The FBI would never take an IC operative in for questioning.

That said, Ryan is of course correct. What did Richard do, call the Pickerings from the back seat of the agent’s car?
