The Malmstrom AFB Missile/UFO Incident – Part II

In our last blog update, we heard from James Carlson, the son of one of the Echo Flight witness Eric Carlson (witness to the fact that it was a non-event, that is). In that update, James detailed, in the prolific prose for which he is now very well known for, the current dilemma that Robert Hastings and Robert Salas find themselves in.

Witness Walt Figel, upon being interviewed by James Carlson, reports that there was no UFO. Hastings claims there was a UFO event. So – what’s the story?

James Carlson has been working hard to get to the bottom of this discrepancy, and all he has received for his efforts up until now has been attempted discrediting by Hastings – with claims that James has never spoken to Figel.

In this update, James goes a step further and provides email evidence to support his direct contact with Echo Flight witness Walt Figel. As we progress in this story, RU is working to obtain final evidence to confirm the new information James now offers, which directly counters what Hastings and Salas are reporting about Echo Flight.

But first, we will continue with James’ comments in our forum – comments aimed directly at Robert Hastings and Robert Salas and challenging them to provide proof for their claims about Walt Figel and Carlson’s father. Make sure to read through to the bottom of this post, where James provides evidence of his communications with witness Walt Figel.

James Writes:

“If Walt Figel was aware - as Hastings has continuously asserted for some years now - that a UFO shut down the missiles at Echo Flight, and that my father was aware of this as well and has simply lied about the event, while Figel told the truth, then I challenge him to prove it.

Call Walt Figel, Robert, as you have promised to do time and again for the past four-and-a-half months. Your problem has come about because nobody has ever required any real standards of proof from you as a result of your ridiculous and silly claims. You’ve never attempted to apply any form of peer review to your assertions, and you’ve grown lazy, because most people who have adopted your point-of-view don’t require proof and don’t need confirmation.

The rest of the world still does, Robert, and you are unable to provide it, or you would have done so already. If I’m wrong, show me - prove it.

Make another phone call to your primary witness at Echo Flight, and show the world that Walt Figel says there was a real UFO at Echo Flight on March 16, 1967, and that my father has been lying about this for over forty years. Frankly, I’m sick of your crap, and your slanders and attacks and your continuous claims that I’m lying and that you can prove it. However, you don’t have the will or the time to do so.

I’ve got some news for you - you knowingly lied about what Figel told you regarding Echo Flight. You’ve repeatedly claimed that he confirms your UFO myth, and that my father has been lying about the event for years. You’ve claimed over and over and over again that my assertions are lies and bluff, and that you can prove this easily, and yet, in the four-and-a-half months since I spoke to him, you’ve produced NOTHING.

You and Robert Salas are frauds - you have knowingly lied to your audience about UFOs at Echo Flight. You knew long ago that Figel’s discussion of this event did not “prove” UFOs were involved at Echo Flight, but you have repeatedly claimed that they do, and your primary source for this – according to your own statements – is Walt Figel. You’ve also claimed that Walt Figel’s assertions are proof that my father has lied about this event, and you knew that wasn’t true as well.

You once offered to give me Walt Figel’s phone number so I could speak to him and thereby discover that my father had lied to me about this event. I didn’t need it, because it was easy enough to track him down on my own. But, maybe you should use it now. Do what you have been insisting you could do for the past few months and prove to the world that I haven’t spoken to Figel and that Figel hasn’t personally refuted every one of your conclusions regarding this incident. So far you’re just a lot of talk, and a lot of insulting rhetoric. In light of your prior comments, that’s pretty pathetic, don’t you think?

I have been 100% honest with the members and readers of this forum.

-> I have outlined a complete record of the events in March, 1967

-> I have backed that up with both documented evidence and the testimony of those individuals who were actually involved in that event.

-> I have asserted and proven that previous versions of this very real incident are incomplete, factually incorrect at times, and improperly confirmed.

In fact, the only possible conclusion that can be reached is that these individuals (Hastings and Salas) have very carefully and very consciously distorted the facts in order to create a paradigm supporting an event that they have invented – for whatever reason.

I think they did it for money, but maybe they did it for other reasons. The fact that they DID it, however, can’t be denied by anyone who looks at the evidence, unless they just dismiss everything and insist that I’m lying – which is what Hastings has recently suggested. I suspect that after reading the complete record of my communications with both Walt Figel and Frederick Meiwald below, he will alter his claims to suggest that Walt Figel, Frederick Meiwald, my father, and I are ALL lying, and that Robert Salas is as honest and golden as the sunrise.”

Communications Between James Carlson and Echo Flight Witness Walt Figel

James continues: “Please keep in mind that ALL of this has been part of the record since last March (2010) at the latest. If you still think I’m lying, it should be very easy to confirm, so do so. I am absolutely sick of people suggesting that I have lied about this matter without once attempting to confirm such slanderous assumptions. Robert Salas, Robert Hastings – even Frank Warren - don’t want an open discussion or dialogue regarding this matter; they want people to think I’m lying!

In fact, Hastings’ commentaries generally start with that assumption! When was the last time someone demanded any affirmations of the degree they’ve demanded of me from someone who claimed they SAW a UFO? I’m willing to bet Hastings has NEVER demanded such a level of proof – I’ll bet he simply accepted their claims without examination. I know for a fact he hasn’t applied any such need for immediate proof to Robert Salas, because if he had, Salas could never have been so inconsistent regarding his own claims - and inconsistency is the single most consistent and common factor characterizing those claims!

Please find attached the complete text of my written communications with COL.(Ret.) Walter Figel, Jr., currently living in Colorado.

I have also included my communications with LTCOL.(Ret.) Frederick Meiwald, the commander of Oscar Flight who Robert Salas insists was with him the day the missiles at Osar Flight supposedly failed as the result of extreme interference by a UFO that emptied the command post of all security personnel during an armed event, and injured one security policeman to such an extent that he required a medical evacuation via helicopter. He asserts as well that he doesn’t believe in UFOs, which is a strange thing to say in light of Salas’ claims that a man under his command was injured and evacuated as a result of said injury by a UFO. In any case, in my final letter to him, I extended my sympathies regarding his mother, and promised not to disturb him again. I haven’t written to him, nor have I heard from him since.”

[Note from author - Oscar Flight witness communications will be published in the blog in the next post. For the sake of brevity, I've omitted James' initial emails to Figel do to their length, but you can read them in their entirety in the forum.]

Dear Mr. Figel,

If you don’t have the time or desire to contact me again regarding this matter, please tell me.

Robert Hastings is now stating “As for Col. Walt Figel not confirming what I’ve written, how would you know, given that you have been too cowardly to call him, to hear what he told me directly, despite my pleas that you do so? His comments posted on this thread are verbatim excerpts from my taped conversation with him. As others posting here have previously noted, you are the *only* one who thinks that Figel agrees with your position. Talk about deep denial. (Drew Clueless doesn’t count here, given his 100/1 inaccuracy-to-accuracy ratio when attempting to interpret anything anyone else has posted here.)”

Some kind of response from you would be appreciated, particularly some discussion regarding the issues I asked you about on 2/19, but if you don’t intend to respond, knowing that would be helpful as well.

Thanks in advance.

Most sincerely,

James Carlson

Albuquerque, NM

Unfortunately – James found himself in the middle of a situation that truth-seekers here are RU are accustomed to. Discover the truth, report it with evidence, and come under harsh attack from believers and of course the promoters of false claims. Standard situation – unfortunately, until James came to RU, he was fighting this fight alone.

Walt Figel, understanding this characteristic of the horrid UFO community, Walt responds on March 2 with the following comment (emphasis mine):

I am not a fan of Salas, Hastings, or the whole UFO crowd

I have never seen one and flatly don’t believe they exist at all

I just want you to be clear of my position on UFOs

They make good science fiction – nothing more

I have read both of their books

There are many inaccurate statements and events in the books

I have told them both that

For instance, Oscar flight NEVER had any problems and Salas was NEVER involved in any of them at all just for starters

I think that they are just enjoying the notariety of the situation

Let me know when to call and I will do so tonight

Regards

Walt

About a week later, after once again coming under attack by Hastings and his supporters, James is forced yet again to ask Walt for confirmation regarding some of Hastings more recent claims.

From: “James T. Carlson” To: ” Jr.Walter Figel” < [WALT FIGEL'S EMAIL ADDRESS] >

Dear Col. Figel,

I’ve had a couple of emails from different people today regarding some statements I wrote; specifically RobertHastings wrote them a letter stating the following:

“I re-interviewed Walt Figel on Monday evening. Salas re-interviewed him on Tuesday evening. We have both conversations on audiotape and we are currently transcribing them. We asked Figel to address James Carlson’s interpretation of his statements and position on various things. James will not like what Walt had to say.

Figel has given Salas and me permission to publicize his statements as we see fit. I will post a comprehensive rebuttal to James’ flawed claims in the next few days, providing verbatim excerpts from the conversations. I may even make key portions of the original audio tape available online.”

[snip]

If you would please send me a quick email or telephone me, I would very much appreciate it. I’ve told the above gentlemen what I believe to be the truth, and that the email from Robert Hastings is probably just more of his garbage, but if I’m wrong, I’d like to know, so I can correct my errors. And if my acts got you more involved in a discussion you didn’t want to get further involved with, I am sincerely sorry for that.

Tell me what I can do to fix it, and I promise you I will do so — whatever it is; just tell me how you’d like it done.and that the email from Robert Hastings is probably just more of his garbage, but if I’m wrong, I’d like to know, so I can correct my errors. Walt Figel Provides a Full Writeup in Response to Hastings’ and Salas’ Claims

Walt wrote a fantastic response to James – a detailed and full review of the situation and his take on it. In this author’s opinion, Walt’s statement is the final word on the matter, and Hastings and Salas have much to answer for. Walt wrote (emphasis mine):

Re: telephone conversation.eml

James

I guess you must have posted something somewhere that got Hastings attention
He did call and we did speak for a bit, so did Salas.
You should know that both calls were very cordial as was ours.

However, I think you guys have a pissing contest going that I would rather not get in the middle of. I have no vested or financial interests in UFOs and actually not even a passing interest in them. Guess I am different from most people. But, I could really care less about the subject.

I reasserted that I personally never did see a UFO at any time.
I do not personally “believe” that UFOs had anything to do with Echo flight shutting down that year.
I repeated that I never heard about an incident at November or Oscar flight and have no knowledge that they ever happened and that I doubted they did.
That is obviously a personal opinion as I can not prove the negative.

I repeated that Colonel Dick Evans was at the alternate command post at Kilo which is in the same squadron as November and Oscar and he never mentioned anything about a shutdown at either of these two flights.

If it did happen, I personally don’t know anything about it.

One of their books said I had a personal log – I did not.

The only log I ever filled out was the official log that all flights kept and that I do not and never did have a copy of that log. Obviously I can not remember what I wrote that morning.

One of the books says that the flight shut down in “seconds” – that is not an exactly accurate statement.

It obviously took some time for your dad and I to run the appropriate checklists and make all the calls that we had to make to the command post and maintenance. We were near the end of the checklist when the second missile shut down and shortly threafter the rest of them followed suit.

That sequence of events took several minutes not seconds, but that is all a very minor point in fact and doesn’t change the facts of the overall sequence of events that morning.

I told him that when someone mentioned UFOs, I just laughed it off as a joke and assumed someone was just kidding around. I never took it seriously.

I also told them that no one from any UFO office in the Air Force ever interviewed/deriefed your dad and/or me and that I do not remember ever signing any papers about anything.

In fact, I told them that until he mentioned it, I did not even know there was an office that monitored sightings of “UFOs” in the Air Force.

When your dad and I came topside the next day – no one ever said anything about UFOs and there was no “large gathering” of people on site that morning.

There may have been later that afternoon, but I would have no knowledge of that as we were long gone back to the base as usual.

I did not know the targeting office’s name or even know that he was there.

I did say there was a VRSA recording reporting a “Channel 9 – NO GO” reported.
They said that the maintenance crews had no such report at the LF.
I told him that I did not know how the system worked at the missile site so that I do not know if that is possible or not.

I have always maintained that I do not personally believe in UFOs.

I am not convinced that November or Oscar ever happened.

But these are obviously personal opinions and I can not state them as facts or prove them – they are my personal beliefs.

I also believe these statements are accurate.

I also believe that is what I said 2 years ago, but I don’t have recordings.
So my knowledge is very slim and I have no records about anything at all.
In addition, that was 43 years ago and memories fail – especially about things that were not especially important to me at the time.
Today, I can’t remember what time my wedding was and that I assure you is more important to me then and now. And that was in 1971.

So if this is a help, so be it.
But I would rather stay out of any long standing debate about UFOs and leave that to the experts and researchers and those who know or at least truely believe that they know. After all they may be right and proven so some day.

As for me, I’ll just go my way as a skeptic until proven wrong.

As you can see, I cc’d Hastings so that you both have the same piece of paper. I don’t think that there are any inconsistencies in what I said to either of you. If there are, I’m sorry, that is not my intention at all.

Good luck in your pursuits. Stay professional and all will benefit.
Regards to your dad, I wish him well. It’s been many years.

With that said, I hope that this tug of war is over and the three of you can resolve your differences about the whole affair.

Walt

With Walt’s final, well-written words, I close this post.

In the next update, you will have an opportunity to read, for the first time anywhere online (other than our forums), James’ exchange with LTCOL.(Ret.) Frederick Meiwald, the commander of Oscar Flight, regarding Hastings’ and Salas’ claims about the event.

Stay tuned. There’s more to come.

The Malmstrom AFB Missile/UFO Incident, March 1967

According to Ufology researcher/writer Robert Hastings, on March 16, 1967, the appearance of UFOs at Echo-Flight nuclear missile facility allegedly shut down the missile silo. Robert Hasting’s information comes from a man named Robert Salas who claimed he witnessed the event.

Background of the Malmstrom AFB Missile/UFO Case

The son of one of the officers who was involved in the Echo flight incident, named James Carlson, took Hastings and Salas to task for those claims. Carlson contends that both his father and retired Col. Walt Figel, the other officer involved in the incident, both reported that there were no UFOs.

See Tim Printy’s March-April 2010 edition of SUNlite for more background.

Hastings has denied that James was ever in touch with the second witness, Col. Walt Figel. James Carlson provided RU investigators with records of his correspondence with Figel, which revealed that Figel confirmed James Carlson’s interpretation of how the event actually occurred.

In March of 2010, James writes:

Robert Hastings has made much of the fact that I have refused to interview his witness, Col. (Ret.) Walter Figel, Jr., regarding his recollections of the Echo Flight Incident on March 16, 1967. To be precise, he has written “I note first that James Carlson still refuses to call retired Col. Walt Figel, to hear from his own lips, as I did in October 2008, that while on alert as the DMCCC at Malmstrom’s Echo Flight, in March 1967, he spoke with two individuals via the phone in the capsule–a missile maintenance team member and an arriving SAT team member–about a “large round object” that was hovering over one of the flight’s LFs. James’ father, Eric Carlson, lied to him some time ago–telling him that no UFOs were present when all 10 missiles dropped-off alert status–and so James has been slandering and libeling everyone who disputes that version of events ever since, Including one former MIMS tech whom I interviewed a few years ago.” He stated as well: “So, James Carlson, rant on. If you ever find the courage to call Col. Figel please let me know. I will provide his phone number, as I first offered to do a year-and-a-half ago.”

Frankly, I’ve never needed his assistance to contact Col. Figel — I’ve managed to do so quite easily on my own. The fact that I have been reticent to discuss the matter in more detail has very little to do with cowardice. I have, in fact, contacted Col. Figel, but didn’t feel that it would be very ethical to discuss in detail the event he recalls without securing first his complete cooperation, authority, and permission to do so. Having secured that this very evening, I am now prepared to discuss the matter in full. I can also add, very strongly, that my father never lied to me about anything, as Hastings claims, and that his recollections match exactly those of Col. Figel’s. I’ve “slandered and libeled” nobody, and I can say with complete confidence today that both Robert Hastings and Robert Salas have knowingly mislead their entire audience into believing a lie they were well aware of in order to sell their books.

James reported that Col Figel confirmed that:

1. Col. Figel does not believe UFOs were “even remotely associated with the Echo Flight Incident, or any other equipment failures at Malmstrom.”
2. Col. Figel confirmed that he has no interest in Ufology and is not a fan of the UFO crowd.
3. Figel stated, “I have read both of their books. There are many inaccurate statements and events in the books. I have told them both that.”
4. He also stated that Salas was “never involved in any of them (the flights) at all.”

August 2010 – James Carlson Reveals more of the Figel Communications

In August of 2010, James learned that more rumors had spread regarding his communications with Figel. Specifically, there were rumors floating about that the communications had never taken place. Once again, James entered the RU forums to set the record straight, and wrote the following commentary in a post on RealityUncovered forums:

“Gentlemen, and Ladies, In some discussions I’ve had with people in other forums, I’ve discovered that there a lot of people out in the world who are convinced that I have not had any discussions with COL.(Ret.) Walter Figel, Jr., and that my declarations to the contrary are lies. Robert Hastings has apparently decided that this is going to be stand he takes. In a recent commentary, he has stated – as he has for months – that I have never spoken with Walt Figel, who has confirmed everything that Robert Hastings has asserted regarding the Echo Flight Incident on March 16, 1967.

This is patently untrue and can be easily shown as such. Robert Hastings has knowingly published versions of this event that he has been told are false by both my father and Walt Figel, and his claims to the contrary are little more than silly attacks that are intended to delay the ruination of his and Robert Salas’ Echo Flight claims until after his pathetic little dog and pony show at the National Press Club in Washington, DC next month. The fact that he would do so at the expense of another man’s reputation doesn’t surprise me. He and Robert Salas have done this before.

The fact that he would do such a thing that is so easily countered also doesn’t surprise me, for reasons I won’t go into. I think everybody knows my opinion of him. It would very, very easy for Hastings and Salas to prove that I am lying by simply contacting Walt Figel, and getting a statement from him that I have been lying about his assertions for the past four-and-a-half months, but neither man has done this. In fact, some months ago Robert Hastings insisted that he would – within a matter of days – release statements and transcripts of his discussions with Walt Figel that would prove his case. He has failed to do so, not because he’s too busy (frankly, it wouldn’t take that long), but because he can’t.

He knows exactly what Walt Figel told me, because he and Robert Salas called him the very next day. It was my certainty that these two have made claims that not only could not be supported, but were transparently contrary to the witness statements that they have published in support of their claims, that originally motivated me to call Walt Figel in the first place – that and Hastings’ insistence that I was afraid to all Figel, because Figel would tell me that my Dad had lied to me. I wanted to confirm my conviction that he had never made the claims regarding UFO interference that Hastings and Salas have consciously and knowingly misrepresented in order to make their claims seem more likely.

This is deceptive – a judgment I reached immediately upon discussing the matter with Walt Figel, who insisted that not only were UFOs not involved at Echo Flight in March 1967, but that he has discussed this with both Hastings and Salas, and was ignored. That escalates the entire incident beyond simple deceit to one of conscious and knowing invention, an invention that has lent their claims greater support among those factions demanding public disclosure of classified documents.

Using a blatant “lie” to give support to such factions is, in my opinion, nearly to the point of a treasonable offense. For these reasons, I have decided to publish the totality of my communications with both Walt Figel, the deputy commander of Echo Flight on March 16, 1967, and Frederick Meiwald, who, according to Robert Salas, was the commander of Oscar Flight on March 24-25, 1967, which is when Salas asserts a UFO took 8-10 missiles offline, an event that emptied the command post of all armed security personnel, and ultimately resulted in the injury of one security policeman to such an extent that he had to be evacuated from the site by helicopter.

You would think that if a man was injured by a UFO during his watch after that same UFO had emptied the command post of personnel, so they could confront the UFO, fully armed, that he would probably believe that the UFO was not a figment of the entire command post’s group imagination. That’s not the case, though.

Meiwald isn’t exactly the brilliant confirmation of these events that Salas has made him out to be. Robert Hastings has recently claimed – again – that my interview with Walt Figel did not occur. He claims that Walt Figel has confirmed his entire UFO story regarding Echo Flight, and that my father has been lying about this incident for forty years. If this is true, it should be extremely easy to prove by simply calling Walt Figel, and asking him.

In fact, when I first gave details of my interview with Figel last March, Hastings stated that he could easily prove that he was correct and I was either lying or being deceptive, and that he could, and would, prove this within a matter of days. He said this in an email to the gentlemen who operate this website, Reality Uncovered, stating specifically “I will post a comprehensive rebuttal to James’ flawed claims in the next few days, providing verbatim excerpts from the conversations. I may even make key portions of the original audio tape available online.“  That was four-and-a-half months ago, and he hasn’t even provided a muted summary. Since then he has continued to insist that he would prove the errors in my assertions, saying, at one time or another that I was lying, was being deceptive, misunderstood what Figel was saying, etc., etc.

So prove it, Robert. Or are you just a lot of talk, without any evidence at all? Four-and-a-half months, Robert, and you’ve done nothing except call me names and insist that I’m a liar. If you are indeed a paragon of virtue, then prove it – if I’m lying, then certainly Walt Figel would agree with you, yes? How much time would it take to simply confirm that one part of your slanders? A couple of minutes? One telephone call? Do what you claimed you could easily do months ago – or are you just making noise and killing time so that those people who donated money for the fraudulent dog and pony show that you and Salas are organizing for the National Press Club in Washington, DC next month won’t have grounds to sue you? After all, if someone could show that you solicited donations based on assertions that you knew were false, which is pretty much what Walt Figel’s statements to me assert, then you’ve been soliciting funds on false pretenses, haven’t you? And not just you – Robert Salas, too.

To be continued…

Don Ecker Interviews Stephen Broadbent on Dark Matters Radio

After RealityUncovered released the story about “Source A” and his true identity, the response throughout the Ufology community has, excluding the Exopolitics crowd, been very positive.

Those revelations about Source A continue to reverberate throughout the Ufology community this week, as discussions take place on the many Ufology forums and blogs regarding Richard Theilmann and the Pickering Brothers.

Today, well-known Ufologist Don Ecker contacted us for an interview with RU’s Stephen Broadbent to discuss this hoax as well as the other stories RU has published since its founding.

The radio interview will be aired tonight at 10pm Pacific Time, 1am Eastern Time. You can listen to the live show at CyberstationUSA, or download the show from the archive at Dark Matters Radio.

About Don Ecker

For anyone familiar with the field of Ufology, Don Ecker is a well known figure, and we were very pleased to have this opportunity for a dialog with such an established figure in the field. Don Ecker served as the Director of Research for UFO Magazine for more than 20 years.

In terms of military background, Richard, Clay and Shawn could learn a thing or two from reviewing Don’s past. This is a man with a real military background. Don enlisted in the army in 1969 and served in the top-secret Army Security Agency (the military branch of the NSA) during the Vietnam War. Don served at Okinawa and served in Vietnam at Camp A-4 in Phu Bai in 1971, right on the DMZ. Don was injured during the 1972 “Easter Offensive,” receiving a Purple Heart, and was eventually honorably discharged from service.

In this author’s humble opinion, there is no one better suited to interview RU’s Stephen Broadbent than Don Ecker

Don’s Past UFO Research Aligns with RU’s Mission

In this interview, Don and Steve immediately strike up a positive camaraderie. This could be because both Don and Steve share a military background. Or, just as likely, it could be because they share a common research style – open minded, yet skeptical and fair.

In the early 1980’s, during his work as a police criminal investigator, Don investigated cattle mutilation cases, which eventually led to his life-long interest in various legends and myths.

Don is an established international Ufology expert, making appearances at UFO conferences across the world. He has hosted numerous radio programs and eventually established Dark Matters on Reality Radio Network with film star Dwight Schultz (The A-Team and Star Trek). Don Ecker has been featured on the History channel, the Discovery channel and Coast to Coast AM, to name a few.

Interview Topics

In tonight’s interview, Don and Steve’s discussion is an in-depth talk about the Source A expose, developed from the original, amazing investigative efforts of researchers Andrew and John and then developed and published as a collaborative effort between Amkon and RealityUncovered.

After striking up an interesting discussion, the topics in this radio show also branch out into other areas as well, including RU’s past Serpo investigations, the Phoenix Lights, the Kennedy Assasination and even 9-11.

So listen to the radio show live tonight at CyberstationUSA. Or, if you miss it, make sure to check it out at the archives at Dark Matters Radio

John Alexander – Mr. Non-Lethal With Many Hands in Many Pots

John Alexander

Rtd Col John Alexander. Copyright: Sam Morris, Las Vegas Sun

John B. Alexander. Who is this man? Many people have heard of him in different capacities and within different contexts. Some are aware of his technical work in the field of non-lethal weapons – in fact, he is a man who has been deeply involved within the military-industrial complex for many years. Other people know of him from his very early days in the U.S. Army from 1956 through 1988, when he finally retired as a Colonel.

The man is no slouch – having served time in Vietnam leading Special Forces teams. After the war was over, he worked his way up through the ranks until his last position as the Director at the Advanced systems Concepts Office under General Stubblebine.

As many people know, the Ufologist who was the original victim (or collaborator) of an elaborate effort to distribute MJ-12 documents upon the Ufology community was Bill Moore. Bill Moore eventually reported the names of all of his contacts during those MJ-12 years (1980s) in the form of his “Aviary” list of contacts. John Alexander was one of those contacts.

Coincidentially, John Alexander’s retirement from military/government work and his entry into private research at Los Alamos National Laboratory somewhat coincided with Hal Puthoff’s 1985 retirement from his Remote Viewing government contract and entry into private research at his privately owned research institute in Texas. Hal was also a member of Moore’s “Aviary” list of contacts. Coincidentally, Dr. Christopher “Kit” Green also retired from full time government work (CIA) in 1985 to enter into private industry as well, doing neuroscience work for General Motors.

At Los Alamos, Alexander began his work on Non-Lethal Defense technologies. Like Kit Green, he maintained contractual connections with government agencies, attended conferences and conducted briefings or talks for various U.S. Government and Intelligence organizations as well as collaborating and heading up various research endeavors with organizations throughout Industry and Academia. His non-lethal technology work is very public. He has wrtten articles in The Boston Globe and the Washington Post, and his work has been featured in publications like Scientific American, Wired and TV programs like CNN and Dateline. Now that you have an idea of the man’s public life, it’s time to dig deeper and explore into the man’s private endeavors that many people in the general public don’t know a whole lot about.

Dumpster Diving into Ufology

Like Kit Green and Hal Puthoff, John Alexander was listed by Bill Moore and others as a “U.S. Intelligence Contact” throughout the mid and late 1980s. Coincidentally, the public release of MJ-12 perfectly coincided with the military/government retirements of these men. What other evidence is there regarding the specifics of Alexander’s involvement with Ufologists during the mid to late 1980’s?

Once again, Bob Collin’s book Exempt from Disclosure leaks more information into the public domain that was previously hidden in secrecy, or at least obscurity. Also like Hal, Kit and most of Moore’s other contacts, Alexander has a direct connection to the parapsychology research that was ongoing within the military at the time. In particular, John Alexander worked under General Albert “Bert” Stubblebine III within INSCOM – looking for ways to improve the psychic performance of the military remote viewers.

In fact, according to “Remote Viewers: The Secret History of America’s Psychic Spies”, by Jim Schnabel, Stubblebine signed contracts with the Monroe Institute to test various hypnosis techniques to enhance remote viewer’s performance.

The Turning Point – When Paranormal Research Results in Disaster

John Alexander (Los Alamos), Gordon Novel, and John's wife Victoria

In 1984, General Stubblebine sent an officer to the Monroe Institute for another “RV enhancement” test. According to one of our sources, the technique that the Monroe institute applied to this particular officer was one where all stimuli was removed from the environment. Clothes, lights or sounds were all removed, leaving the officer stark naked in a pitch-black room. The event led to the officer having a psychotic breakdown, and finally Stubblebine’s “retirement” in 1984.

We’re talking about a man, now featured in the major motion film “The Men Who Stare at Goats” as repeatedly attempting to walk through a wall, only to collide with it. We confirmed with several sources that this really took place.

What does all of this have to do with Ufology? Well, psychic phenomenon was not all Stubblebine or Alexander were interested in. In 1991, years after his retirement, Stubblebine, C.B. Scott Jones, and two Ufologists Victoria Lacas and Rima Laibow (who later became his second wife), traveled throughout Europe and the Soviet Union conducting research (and making contacts) into UFO and Psychic phenomenon there. Later, Stubblebine and his new wife Rima held “spoon-bending” parties for their elite friends and colleagues.

How much was Alexander involved with Stubblebine and C.B. Scott Jones in all of this research? Well, Victoria Lacas is now Victoria Alexander – John’s wife. Read Victoria’s comments about the film “The Men Who Stare at Goats.” In the 1990’s, John went on to work part-time for Bigelow-funded National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), alongside the usual fringe-research folks – Hal Puthoff, Kit Green, Kolm Kelleher and others.

And for those of you who thought Gordon Novel only recently popped up on the Ufology radar in recent years with his strange “RAM” project – take another good, long look at the photo above.

John Alexander and Ufology

On Page 8 of Exempt from Disclosure, under a section titled “Summits without the cocktails, the fall of 1986,” Collins writes:

“Ernie Kellerstrass had Bill Moore, Jaime Shandera, Hal Puthoff, Col. John Alexander (author of the book, Future War), Scott Jones (assistant for Senator Pell), and I over to his house in Beavercreek, OH (suburb of Dayton OH) for dinner. All of our meetings were very somber with most of us lookin glike stiffs right out of an “X-Files” show.”

At the time, Alexander was not yet retired, and still actively working on classified remote viewing work while taking part in these private UFO meetings. Given the ongoing activities, up to 2005 and beyond, of many of the individuals listed in this paragraph by Collins, we thought that it is very likely John Alexander is also still involved and active as well.

So, we decided to go straight to the horse’s mouth and ask John Alexander directly about these matters. His responses were interesting. The interesting part was more in what he chose not to answer, rather than what he answered.

The John Alexander Interview

Ryan: On Page 8 of Exempt from Disclosure, Collins writes: “[pasted quote above]” – Could you describe why you agreed to take part in this “summit without the cocktails” in 1986, with personalities like Kellerstrass and Ufologists Bill Moore and Jaime Shandera?

John: Don’t understand the question or context. Did meet him once. Certainly no summit.

Ryan: The context was a meeting in 1986 at Ernie Kellerstrass’ house in Beavercreek, Ohio – apparently to discuss some of Ernie’s stories related to UFOs. Again – could you describe why you agreed to meet with Ernie to discuss the topic? Did a friend invite you, or did Ernie himself?

John: Not sure – that was over 20 years ago and not of a great deal of importance.

Ryan: I know that you were involved (are involved) with non-lethal research, and back then it was just about a year or so from your military retirement and entry into private research. Your interest and involvement in the PSI field is well-documented (such as in your book and in the movie) – but I’m trying to understand why you were interested in UFOs and if there was some connection to your PSI work?

John: Am interested in many areas.

Ryan: On page 9, Collins describes a cloak and dagger operation where the members of the group he just outlined all traveled individually to meet with Executive Producer Seligman (the person who eventually produced “Cover Up Live” featuring Collins and Doty) in Dayton, OH at a secluded State Park. Did you take part in this operation to brief Seligman, and if so, why were you specifically involved and what did information did you plan to share with the Executive Producer?

John: No.

Ryan: On page 11, Collins describes yet another meeting in September of 1988 where everyone met in Albuquerque, NM to conduct interviews for the 1988 UFO show. Were you specifically interviewed by the producers of that show either at the Albuquerque interviews or at any other time or place? If so, can you share what information you provided to the producers and why?

John: No.

Ryan: Throughout the years, Collins consistently refers to a secret “Los Alamos” source who discusses UFO/Alien matters with him. Are you that source, and why?

John: No.

Ryan: On November 3rd, 2009, your wife, Victoria Alexander, wrote a review for the movie “The Men who Stare at Goats.” In that review she writes: “John was formerly with the U.S. Army Intelligence & Security Command (INSCOM) under Major General Albert Stubblebine.” We’ve learned that previous to Bert’s retirement, the last incident that led to his departure was related to a case at the Monroe Institute where he subjected an officer to a particular treatment meant to increase psychic ability (we were told it was the removal of all stimuli) which drove the officer into a psychotic state.

Were these events taking place while you were working for Stubblebine – and can you share more details about the event and how it impacted your own personal beliefs and research related to PSI effects?

John: Yes, Pat was not wound too tight to begin with. TMI was a step too far for him, and he had missed the examination process that all of the other attendees went through. He recovered just fine. Bert didn’t, but that’s another story. Recommend you read The Warrior’s Edge. Most of the stuff I wrote in that book.

Final Words

I admit – the interview felt like it was a bit “lacking” in substance or openness. John was evasive and ignored a number of the questions – in a few cases the most important ones. John ignored the importance of that 1986 meeting that Collins described as involving the group of people Moore eventually identified as his list of contacts throughout the MJ-12 affair. The fact that Alexander was on that list, and here he was meeting with other folks related to the topic of UFOs, is very likely not lost on our more discerning readers.

In short, based upon a close review of his history, associates and which pots his hands are in, in combination with his brisk and evasive answers – I have to conclude that John Alexander is far more involved in these particular Ufology matters than he would like people to know about. I am now even more suspicious than ever before that John was one of the integral players in the distribution effort of the MJ-12 memes upon the public domain, starting in the 1980’s and continuing throughout the next several decades to today.

In time, through interviewing additional players, digging further into the background activities and events, and uncovering more about the interactions among the various players – we will be able to definitively prove or disprove that suspicion.

The Strange World of Back Engineered UFO Technology

darpa1 The world of reverse engineering is indeed a strange one. It’s a landscape of claims and counter claims. Fantastic stories and skeptical analysis. The characters are legendary and the truth elusive. One constant is the proposition that DARPA may be the agency responsible for any advances in the technology.  While DARPA does have a hand in a lot of advances in technology, they only push projects forward - they don’t do the work. As noted by Nicholas Evans in Military Gadgets 2004 "airplane, tank, radar, jet engine, helicopter, electronic computer, stealth technology and internet, none of these that transformed warfare in the 20 and 21st century owed their initial development to the military but were accelerated into service by DARPA." And they work with a limited budget.

A quick look at the DOD fiscal 2003 budget report shows the research budget for DARPA for 2001-2003 at a little less than 3 billion per year. NASA had a 15 billion per year operating budget of which the shuttle takes a third. The NRO was 6 billion per year(An Introduction to Planetary Defense, 2006, Taylor & Boan).

Robert Lazar and Element 115

Back to the characters. In 1987, Robert Lazar shocked the world when he went on television claiming to have been part of an operation that worked on alien technology. Lazar said that the government has possession of at least nine alien spacecraft at a base called S-4. He claimed EG&G hired him to help reverse engineer the technology in the alien craft for use in U.S. military vehicles and power production. In the process, he discovered a rusty, heavy substance he called "Element 115" that powered the alien spacecraft.

Lazar explained how the atomic element 115 (or ununpentium (Uup)) served as a nuclear fuel for the propulsion of the alien craft. Element 115 provided an energy source which would produce anti-gravity under particulate bombardment. As the intense strong nuclear force field of element 115’s nucleus was properly amplified, the resulting effect would be a distortion of the surrounding gravitational field. A vehicle producing this distortion could alter its own relation to the space around it, allowing it to dramatically shorten the distance between itself and its destination.

Lazar speculated that element 115’s probable absence on Earth was due to the fact that the supernovae in Earth’s region of the galaxy were insufficiently massive to produce nuclei of this density. He postulates that other parts of the universe could be richer in this element.  Lazar indicated stocks of the element 115 were a gift from an off-planet civilization to be used as fuel for our own spacecraft.

In 2004, a team of American and Russian scientists succeeded in producing element 115 as an unstable isotope, confirming the existence of such an atom, however the real isotope has virtually none of the critical qualities Lazar describes.

Ultimately, there is no evidence to support Lazar’s claims. Even Stanton Freidman, usually a Ufology proponent of such stories, debunked Lazar – revealing how Lazar’s claim that he holds Masters degrees from CalTech and MIT is false because there’s no evidence he ever even attended either University.  Multiple academic Physicists and Engineers reviewed the alleged propulsion system described by Robert Lazar and found it to be bogus. Two examples are Professor of Engineering George D. Hathaway’s analysis , and a Physical Review by Edward Halereqicz in 2008 where he writes, "Overall, it is revealed that a great number of Lazar’s ’scientific explanations’ are critically flawed."

Philip Corso and Alien Technology

In 1997 Philip Corso shook the UFO community with his book The Day After Roswell (co-author William J. Birnes) relating how he stewarded extraterrestrial artifacts recovered from a crash at Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. According to Corso, a covert government group was assembled under the leadership of the first Director of Central Intelligence, Adm. Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter (see Majestic 12). Among its tasks was to collect all information on off-planet technology.

Corso also claimed the reverse engineering of these artifacts indirectly led to the development of accelerated particle beam devices, fiber optics, lasers, integrated circuit chips and Kevlar material. He also said the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), or "Star Wars", was meant to achieve the destructive capacity of electronic guidance systems of incoming enemy warheads, as well as the disablement of enemy spacecraft, including those from extraterrestrial origin.

Corso claimed that different parts of the Roswell craft were sent to various defense companies, who reverse engineered their properties and that this engineering feat eventually led to a number of breakthroughs. Among them were integrated circuitry, night vision equipment, the laser, particle beams, and fibre optics. These claims have not been independently verified (in fact, the real history of the development of many of these technologies do not support his claims) and the according to Corso, contractors reverse engineering the technologies were told that the parts were stolen from Russia.

In the end, Corso’s stories also turned out to be riddled with holes and outright untruths. An article in the Klass Files reports a litany of holes, including the following:

"On page 197, Corso–who served as a commander of an Army anti-aircraft missile contingent in Germany–says that the Army’s Hawk anti-aircraft weapon is a "heat-seeking missile" for its terminal guidance. The Hawk is a radar-guided missile. The book claims that "the American public first heard about the existence of Stealth [aircraft] technology in President Jimmy Carter’s campaign against President Ford in 1976." The first limited disclosure of the new B-2 stealth bomber did not come until four years later during the Carter-Reagan campaign."

In Tom Mahood’s review of Corso’s book, he writes:

"He’s certainly had a pretty decent career, so why sully it with this UFO
biz?  Much of what he writes is checkable (and what I’ve checked comes
up lacking), so if he’s making it up he’s gotta know he’s going down.
Is it some sort of "disinformation"?  Many will say it is, but I don’t
know.  Honestly, I’m not completely sure just what to make of it.  I
know it’s not the truth, that he’s likley a loon, but beyond that…."

Richard Boylan and Antigravity Technology

Next up is Richard Boylan, who says "At this time, I am aware of the existence of ten kinds of special-technology advanced aerospace platforms [mil-speak for craft], all incorporating antigravity technology in some form."

Those ten were: the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber, the Aurora Lockheed-Martin’s X-33A, Boeing and Airbus Industries’ Nautilus, the TR3-A Pumpkinseed, the TR3-B Triangle, Northrop’s Great Pumpkin disc, Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical’s XH-75D, Shark antigravity helicopter, and Lockheed-Martin and Northrop’s jointly-developed TAW-50 hypersonic antigravity fighter-bomber.

The TR3-B Craft – Anti-Gravity? Not Quite – Boylan Gets It Wrong

Of those craft listed by Boylan, the most fantastic and relevant to the field of UFOlogy is the TR3-B ’Astra", which is allegedly a large triangular anti-gravity craft within the U.S. fleet. The alleged "TR3-B" is the claimed code name for what witnesses have seen – the very large triangular-shaped re-entry vehicle "with anti-gravity." It’s what the November [2000] issue of Popular Mechanics identified as the Lenticular Reentry Vehicle, a nuclear-powered flying saucer - the first version of which allegedly went operational in 1962, [the version which Popular Mechanics illustrated.] Black projects defense industry alleged insider Edgar Rothschild Fouche wrote about the existence of the TR3-B in his book, Alien Rapture . He claimed an anonymous ex-NSA informant, ’Z’, also confirmed that the TR3-B is operational. Fouche claimed that the TR-3B generates an intense magnetic field that reduces its weight by 89 percent.

He says that the TR-3B does not have an antigravity propulsion system, but merely uses the Biefeld-Brown effect to reduce its weight so that more conventional propulsion systems such as scramjets can give it amazing speed.

However, others point out that the effect has been attributed to ionic wind and has been shown to not work in a vacuum, thus eliminating any alleged “antigravity” effects.

"Self-Healing" Materials

Another compelling real-world technology that is often utilized in the telling of alien reverse-engineering tales is the field of morphing metals. Take this quote by Anna McGowan, program manager at NASA’s Langley Research Centre (LaRC), "This is technology that most people aren’t aware even exists."

The team working on the Morphing Project at LaRC have been testing materials with highly unusual properties. These include materials which have the ability to bend on command, ‘sense’ pressure, transform from liquid to solid when placed in a magnetic field and shape-memory polymers. The primary shape memory materials in use are alloys like Nitinol, which have the stiffness of steel but can return to its previous shape when heat is applied, the original shape having been ‘trained’ into the alloy.

Perhaps more incredibly, the Science team have been working on ‘intrinsically smart’ materials which can perform self-diagnosis and self-repair. By understanding the characteristics of these materials at the molecular level, ‘designer smart’ materials will be developed for future application in a number of fields - not the least aerospace - where we might see the development of distributed self-assessment throughout the wings and body of craft with self-repair properties.

The ‘self-healing’ materials are human-made (not alien made) of long-chain molecules called ionomers which react to penetration, such as a bullet, by closing behind it. The implications of this technology for space flight are tremendous.

The new shape-changing process is based on a flat sheet of beryllium copper alloy. Stress within it is manipulated using forming tools to bend, coil or twist the material.

"Imagine seeing a bullet shot through a sheet of material, only to have the material instantly "heal" behind the bullet! Remember, this is not science fiction. Self-healing materials actually exist, and LaRC scientists are working to unravel their secrets.

What we did at NASA-Langley was basically dissect that material to answer the question, ‘how does it do that?’" McGowan said. "By doing so, we can actually get down to computational modeling of these materials at the molecular level. Once we understand the material’s behavior at that level, then we can create designer ’smart’ materials."

Final Words

It seems clear that the technology that’s referenced in these tales are not part of any sort of "reverse engineering" efforts, but instead they are simply fanciful tales. Does DARPA have a hand in any of this? Philip Corso, Robert Lazar and Richard Boylan have all made attempts at convincing followers of Ufology that our latest technologies do, in fact, come from the stars – despite the fact that each of these technologies have verified histories (and actual human inventors) that prove otherwise.  Do these fraudulent stories mean that we should disbelieve all stories related to the existence of odd flying triangles in our skies? I’ve personally seen one fly right over my head – and seeing is believing.

There is no fast, hard evidence to support any of these reverse engineering tales, but what the stories do generate are more questions than answers – that is, questions about the creators of these tales and their motives for doing so.

Do Aliens Exist?

earth2 Do Aliens Exist? It’s a question man has asked for many years now. We’ve tried every means at our disposal to ascertain whether we are alone in the universe. We’ve sent messages across the vast expanse of space (our TV and radio transmissions) and searched the many radio waves for anomalies that would indicate advanced peoples.

Frank Drake, in the early 1960s, came up with an equation (called the “Drake Equation”) that calculated the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

drakes4

Astronomer David Darling argues in Life Everywhere (2001)  that life is highly likely to be common but also says we lack the knowledge to definitively conclude that it is likely to be uncommon. Keep in mind that our sun is hardly a “typical star” as 95% of stars are less massive.

He determined that there was a possibility of 100,000 to 1,000,000 extraterrestrial civilizations in our galaxy (the Milky Way) alone.

Is Life Elsewhere Impossible?

On the other side of the “Do Aliens Exist?” question is the rare earth hypothesis. In the 1995 book, The Creator and the Cosmos, physicist Hugh Ross lists 33 characteristics a planet must have to support life. He estimates the probability of such a combination to be found in the universe as “much less than one in a million trillion.”

In their 2004 book, The Privileged Planet, astronomer Guillermo Gonzalez and theologian Jay Richards carry the notion further, asserting that our place in the cosmos is not only special but also designed for discovery.

UFO and Alien Witness Accounts

Some people swear they have proof of the existance of alien beings yet it is lacking since it is merely words with no direct physical evidence. Take this witnesss account from UFO Alley for example:

“With equal certainty I can tell you they are here and have been for some time. I personally have only been involved directly for just over two years now. My wife and I witnessed a incoming “Disabled UFO.”

It is still quite near, actually 9 kilometers from where I am writing. It is disabled and not leaving. It is split and lifeforms of some type are exiting the craft. They have been for two years.

I have said that mankind has little to do with this climate change. Our Alien arrivals are filling the skies with their UFOs and themselves. Warming the atmosphere. Climate change will be far more rapid than anticipated.”

The skeptics argue that the evidence is less than convincing, since most UFO sightings (95%) can be explained by natural phenomenon. Some even go so far as to question the witness’s reliabilty.

Michael Shermer, the editor of Skeptic Magazine, says, “The parade of astronauts or police officers or politicians like Jimmy Carter  it’s irrelevant. Because they’re human and their brains and nervous systems and sensory apparatus are structured just like the average Joe’s.”

Also consider the people who claim to have physical proof of alien visitation, such as this witness account from iReport:

“What I’m showing in this video is an actual fragment of a UFO which crashed near Muncie Indiana in 1988. It was recovered by a dear friend of mine who is much older than me. He worked on a project in the 1990’s which was funded by DARPA. He recovered the fragment in 1989 when a friend of his who was a FEMA agent brought him to the site.”

These are not to be confused with the many abduction stories. And until sleep paralysis can be positively ruled out they hold no hope of solving the puzzle.

Do Aliens Exist – The Public Perception

In a recent poll conducted by quizilla.com on whether people think there are other civilizations in the universe the results speak for themselves.

- Nope. Never existed and never will. -> 9% (141)
- Of course they exist. They even come to Earth! -> 22% (342)
- Only in the movies. -> 8% (131)
- Maybe somewhere in the universe but not anywhere near Earth. -> 59% (891)

So do aliens exist? SETI is actively sweeping the known radio frequencies for signs of intelligent communication. They are sifting through the cosmic noise for a distinct signal. Except for a couple of anomolous signals (the WOW finding for example) they have yet to find any verifiable signs that anyone is sending us signals. Their search is a huge dragnet meant to turn up a needle in a haystack.

And when/if we do find some other civilization – what then? Maybe as Dr. Michio Kaku said in Physics of the Impossible (2008) P. 147:

“But a Type III civilization would likely not be inclined to visit us or conquer us, as in the movie Independence Day, where such a civilization spreads like a plague of locusts, swarming around planets to suck their resources dry. In reality, there are countless dead planets in outer space with vast mineral wealth they could harvest without the nuisance of coping with a restive native population. Their attitude toward us might resemble our own attitude toward an ant hill. Our inclination is not to bend down and offer the ants beads and trinkets, but simply to ignore them.”

In all likelyhood, it would seem a good bet that we are not alone in the vast universe, but trying to prove it is a task that could occupy our many years to come.  And man, by his very nature, will continue to search the vast heavens for signs of life. But until we drop our homo-centric pretexts and open our thinking to the many possibilities that might exist in the universe, we may just be spinning our wheels. After all, who knows that they haven’t already been here, yet we let our myopic view get in the way.

The Morristown UFO Hoax Exposes Problems With Ufology

flares In the process of our research here at RealityUncovered, while investigators are currently centrally focused on the MJ-12 mythology that has permeated through Ufology for so many years – we also come across some truly unusual stories. The Morristown UFO incident is certainly one of the strangest hoaxes to come out of Ufology in a very long time. It’s strange because, this time, it was conducted by two skeptics who believe in the need to expose pseudoscience.

The Morristown, N.J. UFO Hoax

In an odd twist on UFO hoaxes, this one was conducted by skeptics Joe Rudy and Chris Russo who wanted to conduct a typical UFO hoax in order to portray, in a very public way, how easily people are fooled by such things. Reading this story brought to mind a conversation Steve and I had about a year ago in the midst of our own investigations.

One late night, after reading some of the silly frantic comments about the "Caret Drone" at a particular forum called "Open Minds" (one of many tiny UFO believer-forums that’s always crawling with brainless nimwits ready to believe the next big hoax) – I said to Steve, "Why are hoaxers so stupid about creating these stories – they give themselves away, leaving clues and evidence strewn all about for any decent researcher to discover?"

Steve’s response was a short quip, typical of his personality that combines a matter-of-fact approach with biting British sarcasm. "Because there aren’t any decent researchers in Ufology."

"Do you realize that based on what we know about this scam (MJ-12), and the mistakes they made – we could create a hoax a hundred times more effective and impossible to trace?"

"Yup," he responded.

"Why the hell are the hoaxers so stupid?"

"Because they’re used to dealing with brainless believers who never bother checking anything out," he answered.

And that’s the truth.

balloon_release Using fishing line, helium baloons and flares, Joe and Chris conducted one of the most elaborate UFO hoaxes of the last few years. They produced UFO sightings several times, and each time the media coverage was huge – even the History Channel’s UFO Hunters and Bill Birnes of UFO Magazine covered the "Morristown UFO." Bill Birnes in particular was revealed for his lack of critical thinking in this case. They were never caught – but eventually revealed themselves on an online eSkeptic website.

If You’re Gonna Hoax – You’re Gonna Get Yours Too

There is a reason RU has never taken the tactic of using public hoaxes as a way to expose hoaxes. In one case we turned MJ-12 scammers "anonymous" identity tactics against the hoaxers themselves by using an anonymous online entity named "Tacitus" to smoke out the con artists through their frantic, panicked reactions – but as an organization that stands firmly against hoaxing, creating a hoax directed toward the public would be counterproductive. If you fight hard so that hoaxers are revealed and prosecuted, you’d be shooting yourself in the foot by adding to the list of hoaxes already so prevalent in the field.

Joe and Chris eventually faced disorderly conduct charges by the Morris County prosecutor for presenting a "threat to aviation" with their stunt. Should they face those charges? Everyone has a different opinion. But regardless of how you feel about the actions of these two guys, they did successfully reveal a very important aspect of the UFO phenomenon and public reaction to sightings.

That revelation is that most journalists seem incapable of properly investigating witness claims or thinking critically about UFO sightings at all, and most UFO "investigators" have their heads shoved so far up their own particular belief system that they can’t see the forest for the trees.

What’s your opinion about the Morristown UFO duo – did they ultimately achieve what they set out to prove? Offer your feedback in the comments section below.

Alien Impregnation and Types of Alien Abductions

weirdalien Did the title catch your attention? Good. The response from our last update was surprising. The feedback on both sides of the aisle, from both skeptics and from full-out believers, made me decide to cover the topic of alien impregnation and other types of alien abductions.

Alien Impregnation – Why On Earth Cover THAT?

It’s funny how it happens so quickly. You work on disassembling a 30-year hoax that has held up so many aspects of Ufology for so long, and you get labeled as a "debunker." Turn around and write that alien abductions experiences might be "real," and the skeptics in your corner start to raise their eyebrows. "Dude, I think they’re losing it…"

Types of Alien Abductions and How They Can Be "Real"

The use of the word "real" in combination with alien abduction scenarios, such as the alien impregnation episodes described in that last post, has skeptics who read this blog a bit nervous about the good folks at RU. On the other side, there are the countless UFO "believers," who cling to the established status quo of existing MJ-12 based factoids that have been circulating for so many years that no one really knows what could be true and what can’t be anymore. The believers look at my last post and wonder how a "debunker" can call an alien abduction real?

In order to clarify that statement with a bit of sanity and a dose of open-mindedness, it’s important to cover what parts of the abduction experiences are "real." The following aspects of all types of alien abductions, including those that involve the strange alien impregnation episodes, can be called "real."

- The person experienced sensations and stimuli that they don’t understand
- The person drew conclusions about those stimuli, whether correct or not
- There’s a good possibility some of that stimuli comes from outside the abductee’s control or realm of conscious control
- The probability of abductees being manipulated by an outside force is fair – drawing no conclusions on what that force is

We should take these one at a time, but not before making it very clear that we are not, in any way, saying that the conclusions abductees draw about their own experiences are real. Alien impregnation, alien abuse of marley humans, or alien scientific experimentation all demand an unbiased observer to accept that the cause of the phenomenon are aliens. This aspect of the abduction experience can’t be called "real," because there’s no solid evidence for it. But there *are* aspects of these experiences that the scientist can accept as real in order to observe, investigate and understand.

Sensations and Stimuli That Are Poorly Understood

People often don’t really appreciate how fragile their senses are. As Scrooge commented to his ghostly friend on Christmas Eve, when Marley asked him why he doesn’t even trust his own senses, skeptic Scrooge responded, "You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of underdone potato. There’s more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!" (This was my favorite line ever , by the way.)

The truth is, Scrooge was right. We can not trust our own senses, because when we do, we risk slipping down that slope of beliefs based on a very shaky foundation.

A Georgia Tech paper laid it out beautifully when they conducted a study on how technology users perceived, or understood, an "invisible" technology like RFID. What the study authors discovered is relevant in georgia_tech just about every field of research that deals with invisible forces.

"Users’ perceptions about what a technology does and how it works shape their orientation towards it. Overall, participants showed significant confusion about what RFID is and how it functions, despite many having either firsthand experience with the technology or exposure through media reports describing it. Even participants who described themselves as technically inclined or had degrees in engineering or technology were not immune to this uncertainty. Confusion ranged from basic misunderstandings about the communications structure of the technology itself… (snip)… These analogies formed “folk theories” for the participants, guiding their orientation and understanding of the technical capabilities of RFID."

Experiencer Drawing Conclusions Based on Perceptions

Our inability, as humans, to really understand even our own first-hand experiences with invisible forces leads many people to draw conclusions about those experiences based on existing folklore and their existing beliefs. A silent touch in the night by an invisible entity becomes an alien visitation for one person, or a ghost visitation for another. An orb shooting overhead in the sky above a graveyard becomes a UFO sighting for the Ufologist, but it becomes a ghost sighting for the ghost hunter. A comb moving on its own across the top of a dresser becomes a demonic visitation for one person, or a psychic ability called psychokinesis for another.

These are all conclusions based on the personal experiences, and drawn from first-hand perceptions that are interpreted in many ways based on pre-existing beliefs, cultural biases, and simply – how we are brought up. People who share the same beliefs tend to group together (both online and off) and serve to reinforce how they’ve individually perceived those experiences – solidifying their own conclusions, however false or untested they may be.

A true scientific study of invisible phenomenon is where the experiencer consciously ignores those natural responses and human tendency to jump to conclusions, and analyze those existing perceptions with all of the tools at his or her disposal, not just through those fickle human senses alone.

External Forces and Intelligent Control

Setting all of the false conclusions aside, the one fact remains that something seems to be causing a very large population of folks to experience these real perceptions. Any true scientist that ignores the experiences of these individuals is not worth their salt, in my humble opinion. Yes, many of these experiencers are insane or psychologically troubled. But there are a great many who are not. Despite the fact that they’ve drawn conclusions about their experiences that could very likely be incorrect - that they are aliens, ghosts,  or whatever else – the experience itself took place. And its up to honest and unbiased scientists to understand both the forces at play and any potential outside intelligent control that directs those forces.

It’s the single black box that has confused both laymen and scientists for centuries, but ignoring the existence of the black box, regardless how scary the reality of it may be, is not an option.

WW III & UFOs Intervention

nuclear strike Beginning as early as the 1970’s, Jacques Vallee, the renowned investigator who eventually became famous as an expert regarding the UFO abduction phenomenon and UFO cults in particular, began publishing a long series of books that touched on concepts related beleifs surrounding concepts like WW III & UFOs Intervention.

Understanding Memes: WW III & UFOs Intervention

Many abductees across the world are attracted by the alluring nature of the alien message they receive, and many start to turn their fear and anxiety into acceptance of the message – even to the point of embracing it and preaching it to the community (both offline and online) around them. Other abductees recognize the messages as apparently significant, but don’t know what to make of them.

Common themes that are spread throughout these shared experiences include:

1. Extraction of reproductive fluids for some insinuated “breeding” purpose. Sometimes blatently presented to the abductee in the form of a hybrid baby.

2. A message, delivered to the abductee in some format, of impending global disaster, either environmental or through in a scenerio of WW III & UFOs intervention.

Dr. Karla Turner, an abductee researcher (and experiencer herself), brings up some excellent points regarding the modern day “explanations” that many researchers offer when she writes :

“So the researchers announce that the problem is solved. The aliens are doing cross-breeding experiments, UFOlogists tell us. Never mind the overwhelming evidence against the viable commingling of different species. Or, we are told, the aliens are here to save us from destroying ourselves and our planet through violence, drug use, epidemic disease, pollution, and resource depletion. Never mind that these problems have grown worse , not better, since the ETs began visiting us. Or, most infuriating of all, we are assured that there are no actual aliens, that our experiences spring from our own subconscious turmoil or from our need for fantasy fulfillment. Never mind that many abductees are young children , too young to be suffering from such psychological disturbances.

Well, then, the resourceful researcher counters, the imagined aliens must spring from some collective human super-psyche that is mirroring our failures and dangers back to us. This particular theory adores the archetypal gray ET, because it resembles some sickly fetal form of humanity and must therefore be an objectified warning of what our species is in danger of becoming if we don’t mend our ways. Never mind that many, many abductees have no dealing with grays, but instead are victimized by robust reptoids and insectoids . Not to mention the totally human-looking blond beauties and black-headed, black-robed clan with the widow’s peak hairline.

Common Elements of Abductions

ufo She also points out the common elements of the abductee experience.

– The beings appear to have the ability to alter the perceptions of an experiencer.
– They can control thoughts and vision and appear in a variety of forms.
– They can actually take over the “consciousness” of an experiencer, and utilize the abductee’s own body against their will.
– These beings are sometimes reported as being present but invisible or partially visible at times.
– Experiencers sometimes receive real, physical marks on their bodies such as scoops, straight-line scars, single punctures, multiple punctures, large bruises, claw marks, and triangles.
– Females abductees experience gynecological problems after encounters including various cysts and cancers.
– Medical procedures during experiences include both extraction and injection of fluids.
– Many experiencers develop serious illnesses following the “abduction.”
– There are many cases of degraded mental, social and spiritual health after these experiences, including the start of drug or alcohol use, or other excessive behaviors (similar to manic/bipolar behaviors).
– Most experiences include adult sexuality, child sexuality, and often physical pain.
– Experiencers are “trained” by being shown a variety of images and “lessons.”
– Some experiencers report being taken to very human facilities where there are also humans present, usually in military uniform.
– Beings encountered include gray, reptoid, insectoid, blond, and “widow’s peak.”
– Visions often include hybrid creatures including humanoid fetuses as well as vats holding human body parts.

What do all of these common elements tell us? Not a whole lot. What does the aftermath tell us? A great deal.

UFOs & Economic Collapse

These dreams, visions or experiences, shared by many thousands of people across the world, are real and valid experiences. Setting aside the need some people have to explain them away, or the desire other people have to justify them so that they can be confident they aren’t crazy – one thing is true; the experiences share common themes.

Here at RU, we’ve been busy researching how one particular group has been extracting memes out of Ufology and abduction experiences for many years, and they’ve been using them for their own purposes. Setting that aside – are those dreams and experiences any less real simply because there are certain cold-hearted and unethical scammers who would likely rob a crippled old lady on the side of the road if given a chance?

No, these experiences are real, and with the current economic crisis looming, people need to be cognizant not to incite paranoia and panic that what these “entities” are telling people might be coming true. We’ve been here before, there have been a number of serious financial crisis in this country - and the world goes on. Remember that.

When the “entities” that you face each evening preach a theme of world crisis, and that they are going to “save us,” you can be sure that these particular beings are what Vallee termed, “Messengers of Deception.”

Still struggling to understand who and what they are? These are the issues that we’ll be helping people deal with moving forward. First order of business is to destroy the man-made machinery that a group of scammers have constructed to take advantage of your vulnerable condition. Help is here.

Real Alien Sightings? The Boshkung Lake Invasion

mysteries3The following report was submitted by RU’s own member Longhaircowboy, a UFO enthusiast and investigator.

I became interested in the Boshkung Lake event when I picked up a book at the local library by Curt Sutherly titled UFO Mysteries. I had never read this book, but after reading his account of the Boshkung Lake Invasion, I became interested in why I couldn’t find any sign of anyone doing an investigation.

I posted the sighting to Reality Uncovered to see if, maybe, there were any others out there who may be of assistance.

Investigating “Real Alien Sightings” and UFOs at Boshkung Lake

In trying to solve the Boshkung Lake sightings I’ve only had two accounts to go by. Curt Sutherlys account in UFO Mysteries, and John Colombos UFOs Over Canada. While I’m not sure that Colombos account is related, it did occur in the same area. The one difference being the real alien sighting of occupants.

Witness, Robert Sufferin, describes an encounter with one of the ships occupants.  He says, “It appeared short and had very broad shoulders,” and describes its movement as apelike. He reported that it wore a one piece silver suit and on its head it had a globe with no visible faceplate. He was the only witness who encountered beings and reported what he believed as a real alien sighting.

Tracking Down Similar Accounts

I was unable to find any contact info for Curt Sutherly, and my email to John Colombo remains unanswered. I am still trying to obtain the Fate magazine article from Nov. 1977.

Here’s the area covered:

blake

Here’s what the lake looks like:

lakeview
I searched the Library and Archive Canada (the list of town and city names I searched is too lengthy to include, but it is in the hundreds) for any similar accounts, and only found one in the town of Trenton.

There was also a possibility in Toronto.

I also searched all of the RCAF bases that would have been nearby at the time. The following are all of the bases:

  • RCAF Station Aylmer, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Arnprior, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Belleville, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Brantford, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFB / 16 Wing Borden, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFB Centralia, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFB Clinton, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Deseronto, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFB Downsview, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Dunnville, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Fingal, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Guelph, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Hagersville, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Hamilton, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Jarvis, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFB / 1 Wing Kingston, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Leaside, Ontario
  • RCAF Station London, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFS Mountain View, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFB / 22 Wing North Bay, Ontario
  • RCAF Sation Oshawa, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Picton, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Port Albert, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFB Rockcliffe, Ontario
  • RCAF Station Toronto, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFB / 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario
  • RCAF Station / CFB Uplands, Ontario
  • RCAF Detachment Armstrong Station, Ontario
  • RCAF Detachment North Bay, Ontario
  • RCAF Detachment Kapuskasing, Ontario
  • RCAF Detachment Malton, Ontario

searchrescue My main clues were Mrs. Lunham’ss description of the object and the noise. Witness Mrs. Lunham described the sound they made as a “dull thumping”. This fits the description of the sound of a helicopter, as does the reported behavior of the craft.  Another clue was their trace evidence. Witnesses reported a tripod-like impression in the ground. Also, some witnesses described them as “polliwogs,” or “helicopters without tails” (maybe they saw them head on).

I was unable to contact the witnesses in Sutherlys account, including Earl Pitts, Jim Cooper, Dale Parnell, Pete Sawyer, the Barnes’, Lester Hicks, and the Lunhams. I also failed to contact the journalist, Peter Courtney, who worked for the now defunct Minden Progress, who witnessed an event. I should also note that newspapers in Canada charge a large fee to retrieve articles from their archives for you (none of those that I was interested in were available on the internet).

Potential Craft Explanations

Also, unlike in the U.S., I couldn’t gain access to flight logs at airports or military facilities. These are under the perview of the Defence Department and are not considered public record. Here in the states, I just call the airport and voila!

Mrs. Lunhams description of the landing pattern, as noted in a Lindsey Post article, was a “v-shape with two pad like markings”. This would seem to point to a helicopter, as there are many that have similar landing gear.

So I looked for helicopters used by the RCAF and the squads nearby. According to rcaf.com, the helicopters that have 3-point landing gear used are:

  • Boeing CH-113A (Labrador)
  • CH-147 (Chinook) heavy lifting
  • Vertol H-21A/B
  • Vertol HUP3
  • Sikorsky H-34, H-5/S-51, CH-124A (Seaking) used in search and rescue
  • CH-148 (Cyclone) used in search and rescue

Keep in mind, most of these were heavy-lifting craft or used in search and rescue. However, I was unable to confirm they were in use in the area and at the time of the sightings. The best I could find was that in 1972, CFB Shearwater was home to the 406 and 450 used the Seaking, and the Chinook and CFB Borden(400) employed the Seaking, Chinook, and Cyclone (dates unknown). I also checked CFB Downsview, home to the 400 Tactical Helicopter, the 411 Tactical Helicopter and CFB Rockliffe, which ceased flying in 1962.

There are 2 local airfields the Muskoka Airport, and the Haliburton/Stanhope Airport. All of which were unable to answer my inquires. I was amazed to learn that in Canada, even the flight logs at private and public airports are not available to the public. I can understand this with military air fields, but here in the states I can just call the local airport and get the info.

Here’s some other possibilities:

Although none of these have any apparent links to the events described in Sutherlys book.

I also found the following account from North Bay:

RCAF Station North Bay

Typically, two wings of night fighters and a single wing of day fighters were stationed there, originally the CF-100 Canuck/F-86 Sabre, and later the CF-101 Voodoo.

This would seem to rule them out of the helicopter equation. I also found this interesting account from CFB North Bay:

Following defence cutbacks in 1972, only a single flying unit was stationed at the airfield, the 414 Electronic Warfare Squadron. CFB North Bay remains Canada’s primary NORAD site, with responsibility for monitoring the Canadian NORAD sector, namely the ADIZ surrounding Canada. Tools used by 22 Wing include the North Warning System which stretches across the Canadian Arctic, as well as coastal radars on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of Canada (primarily used by Maritime Command, these radars reportedly have the dual ability to track small aircraft), and any Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft operated by the USAF or
NATO in Canadian airspace.

Not widely known is a UFO incident associated with CFB North Bay. Several teenagers and base residents reported seeing a massive triangular shaped craft hovering over the base for several minutes on Sept 13th, 2001.

There was no such craft detected by the American or Canadian operations bases for NORAD during that evening.

The CFB and RCAF are not the same thing. CFB is Canadian Forces Base and RCAF is Royal Canadian Air Force. In some cases they were originally air bases but then merged with the larger Canadian Forces. Or in other cases they were downsized to squads and moved around the various bases.

I looked at the VSTOL angle and I couldn’t place any VSTOL craft in the time frame and area.

I did find one interesting one. At the International V/STOL Historical Society, there’s the NORD 500 Cadet (its under the history section) which bears a striking resemblence to the phenomana described. Alas, it only had one tethered flight and was canceled in 1968.

Final Words

The various chambers of commerce in the area that I contacted were unable to provide any assistance.

I checked the weather for the area at the time of the events and found no anomolous weather occurences. All reports showed favorable conditions. In short, I was unable to reach any decisive conclusion concerning the Boshkung Lake event.

So barring anymore evidence turning up, I can only conclude that this event was and still is a mystery.  Although, it is my opinion that what the witnesses saw was probably a front on view of a helicopter. This seems likely, as they may have been conducting some type of training in search and rescue in the area. There was a training squad based not too far from Boshkung Lake, and although I was not able to confirm (the Dept. of Defence are very tight lipped) it does present the most likely scenario.
