Forum Rules Change

Postby ryguy » Thu Feb 12, 2009 6:24 pm

After a bit of discussion between the three members of RU3, we've decided to slightly modify the forum rules as follows:

The previous first rule is gone - we feel this will open the door to some creative initial posts from folks who may have been a bit nervous about putting their feet in the water, because the tone of the rule was pretty strict and appeared to *ban* alternative or outrageous ideas. However, in order to adhere to the core principles that RU was founded upon, we've added the following rules.

5. Posters are encouraged to defend their arguments. Direct questions must be answered in a timely manner.

6. Posters are encouraged to remain on topic. Hijacking other poster’s discussions to draw attention to your ideas will not be allowed.

We seek to make RU a place where any alternative concept can be discussed openly and fairly, but adhere closely to scientific principles and grounded firmly in current reality as we know it. Speculation is welcome, but as the other rules state, speculation and opinion should not be stated as fact, it should simply be prefaced as speculation, and all's good.

#5 will prevent hoax-trolls who post "facts" or claims on a forum and then run, hoping something will stick. That behavior will still not be allowed here. We expect all claims of fact to be defended as it would be within any scientific community.

#6 is important in order to keep important discussions focused on the topic or issue at hand, and prevents sockpuppets or trolls from destroying a proper series of questions-and-answers. We hope these changes make RU more conducive to discussion regarding unorthodox matters related to the paranormal, while still maintaining a firm grounding in science.

We hope to continue growing our position as a home for people, the layperson and scientist alike, who are interested in exploring the paranormal with an open mind, but want to remain firmly grounded with critical thinking and a clear and balanced perspective. Or more simply stated - our motto describes the mission of this forum and its members best:

Searching for the answers, passionate about the truth
"Only a fool of a scientist would dismiss the evidence and reports in front of him and substitute his own beliefs in their place." - Paul Kurtz
