New MOD UFO files released

U. F. O. Three letters that produce a feeling of creeping unease in normally rational people – albeit for different reasons.

For some of us, nothing is more disturbing than the thought of unexplained objects in the sky. They may be turquoise lights that throb gently among the stars, causing you to stop and squint as you put out the rubbish. Or they may be sinister black projectiles that flash across your windscreen so fast that you nearly crash your car. Either way, there's something Out There and the Ministry of Defence needs to know about it. (Unless it already does, but isn't saying.)

This might be as close as we'll get to the secrets of the 'Military Authority' of the Joint Intelligence Committee (MA-JIC)?

Some documents relate to the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) – more recently in the news due to their role in producing the so-called "dodgy dossier", which took us to war with Iraq. In 1957 the JIC discussed the UFO mystery at a meeting and concluded that four cases where UFOs had been tracked on radar remained unexplained. The report was delivered to the JIC by the air ministry's head of air intelligence. This sort of high-level interest always gets conspiracy theorists excited, particularly where the word "intelligence" appears anywhere near the phrase "UFO".

LOL...I love that line. It's so true!

So during the Cold War there were at least 200 RAF intercepts of UFOs per year and then abruptly after the fall of the Soviets there were virtually none? Go figure.

Apparently, the RAF had no interest in chasing radar ghosts once the russian bear was no longer a threat.

This article references MOD files alleging (anecdotal/testimonial) a Churchill coverup after an incident involving pilots had an encounter, in the early 1950s (before he lost power).

I've seen that report but way back in 2001 the Guardian published this article:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2001/oct/2 ... s.research
About a report given to Churchill in 1951 that had this tasty morsel:
The report concludes that all sightings were explainable by natural events, such as the weather or meteors, or were of normal aircraft.
Doesn't bode well for the bomber sighting.

The link posted by longhaircowboy makes at least two good points:

1. Mass hysteria and paranoia during the early Cold War era combined with a fairly "new" phenom called UFOs.

2. If government documents distinctly show a "cover-up" to mask defense vulnerabilities vs that of the existance of UFOs then said government is lying ONLY about the existance of UFOs.

This seems to be the playbook standard for the conspiracy crowd.

This whole Churchill thing is hilarious, all the headlines are screaming Churchill orders files hidden.

But if you read a little deeper the real story emerges

The MOD have released some files
One of them relates to a letter someone wrote them claiming their grandfather told them churchill ordered these files buried for 50 years, and can he please see these files.

they respond

And a month later a civil servant in the Cabinet Office told him: 'In your letter, you say that the discussion between Churchill and Eisenhower on the UFO sighting should have been recorded.

'We have had a look through our lists of material for this period, and I am afraid that we cannot immediately see anything on this subject. Neither do we have any filed on this matter which remain closed.'

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/ ... z0vu26lI5P

They release a file that says they got a letter from someone who reckons his granddad told him this happened and from that press create the meme that it must have actually happened.

the headlines reads

Churchill and Eisenhower 'agreed to cover up RAF plane's UFO encounter during WWII', secret files reveal

But thats not what the files reveal at all, the files reveal that someone mailed them and said their grandad reckons it happened...thats it

More Crumbs for the Koi Pond

by Billy Cox

What’s mildly fascinating about the British National Archives’ quasi-regular release of UFO documents compiled by the Ministry of Defence isn’t so much the content as the media’s reaction to it. It’s like tossing breadcrumbs into a koi pond — they all kinda scrunch into each other as they suckmouth around one piece.

Billy Cox wrote:In the MoD’s sanguine reply to a letter-writer wanting more details, authorities admitted they didn’t know what caused the near miss. They “discussed the matter with Departmental air defence experts who confirmed they were not aware of anything which would indicate a matter of defence significance associated with the sighting, or of any evidence that the UK’s air defence had been compromised.”

De Void suspects they’d say the same thing if they were scraping charred remains from an impact crater.

Don’t hate the player Billy, hate the game. If an actual alien spaceship ever collides with an aircraft you wouldn’t have anything to complain about anymore…
