The "UFO" is more fuzzy in the original untouched version.

No claims yet on ATS that TPTB faked the original.

Hi folks

In case you guys did not know this link, check the picture where it says :

Searchlight beams strike the base of the cloud ceiling,
creating an effect resembling a flying disc.

I discussed the battle of LA and the photo in SUNlite 3-1.

http://home.comcast.net/~tprinty/UFO/SUNlite3_1.pdf

Pages 17-22. There is a picture from Allan Hendry's UFO handbook that also shows a spotlight on a cloud looking like a disc. It was a clear night but with all the AA explosions, I am sure it was like a big fireworks show with plenty of smoke to reflect the beams.

Kentaro Mori pointed this out to me this weekend. Very interesting. The one thing I noticed was that the original appeared more out of focus and the beams appeared to extend beyond the convergence area indicating they were not being stopped by something solid in the convergence area.

I'm not surprised. It looks like they lightened up some of the spotlights to get it to print better in the newspaper?

A while back I searched for the best image I could find. I found it on Bruce Maccabee's website. I fiddled with the brightness and contrast, and was able to coax a little more detail out of the overexposed "UFO disk" where it no longer looks like a UFO disk but more like puffs of smoke:

Some excellent questions raised by RU member Lance Moody on his blog…

The Protocols of Frank Warren
http://www.notaghost.com/2011/05/the-pr ... arren.html

Bruce Maccabee, bravely hid his old (and now completely discredited) "analysis" of the retouched photo and substituted a new "analysis" of the real negative. Of course he still sees something in there.

Priceless.

Might as well throw in some links to my posts on JREF about this back in March while I’m at it for reference…
