The latest news is Tom Daschle for Health & Human Services secretary. How is installing a failed former Dem party leader change??????? Once again this is nothing more than "change back to the old guard"... where are all those fresh faces we were promised????

More Bad News...

Postby You Can Call Me Ray » Thu Nov 20, 2008 7:22 pm

Since this thread is about watching US leadership (not exclusively Obama), I think this fits within this thread.

More bad news on the hopes of bipartisian cooperation in the Congress... Since many here agree with me that Nancy Pelosi is the antithesis of the change we need in DC, this comes as a blow:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,455384,00.html

Rep. Henry Waxman — a liberal ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi — has wrested the chairmanship of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee from veteran Rep. John Dingell when the new Congress convenes in January.

Waxman, a California liberal and avid environmentalist and booster of health care programs, toppled Dingell Thursday on a vote of 137-122 in the Democratic Party caucus, capping a bitter fight within party ranks.

"Avid environmentalist". Again we see the stage being set for the AGW zealots to forcibly change Americans' way of life through their misguided attempts.

Dingell has been the top Democrat on the panel for 28 years and is an old-school supporter of the auto industry. Waxman has complained that the committee has been too slow to address environmental issues like global warming.

There you go folks... I am again sad that what I predicted is starting to formulate in the halls of our federal government. I will be surprised if Obama is able (or even willing!) to fight his Party Power Machine on this issue. If they give him the votes and deliver a bill that institutionalizes AGW in law, Obama will be expected to sign it.

The Daschle Power Base

Postby You Can Call Me Ray » Thu Nov 20, 2008 7:35 pm

It is good for those who still hold out HOPE for Obama to know what they are getting with Tom Daschle (an "old schooler" who certainly does NOT represent real change):

I know his wife Linda Daschle all too well, for we in the aviation industry had to deal with her corrupt dealings as an Associate Administrator of the FAA under the Clinton Administation. What is even worse is that since her days as part of the Federal Government, now she is fully ensconsed as a member of a large DC lobbying firm. And the firm she is part of does, indeed, lobby on behalf of certain health care companies.

Here is a little article that will give you some information about Mrs. Daschle, and her previous questionable activities that ran parallel with her husband and his Federal Government power base:

http://www.laweekly.com/2003-01-23/news ... nda-fly-me

The national press corps didn‘t bother to tell you why Tom Daschle, the Democrats’ Senate leader, decided at the 11th hour not to run for president: In the end, he calculated that he couldn‘t survive scrutiny of his persistent service to the clients of his wife. Linda Daschle has been one of the airline industry’s top lobbyists for two decades -- when she wasn‘t busy running the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which explains why, just 11 days after the 911 attacks, her husband rushed through the Democratic Senate, which he controlled, the $15 billion bailout for the airline industry, a notorious taxpayer rip-off.

But she has an even more dubious past...check this out:

Before 911, Senator Daschle pushed through the sleazy deal in the backrooms of Capitol Hill that forced the FAA to buy defective baggage scanners from one of Linda‘s other clients, L-3 International (from which Linda’s firm raked in $440,000 in the ‘97--’01 period). Under a provision Linda‘s husband had slipped into the 2000 budget for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the FAA was required to buy one of L-3’s scanners for every one it purchased from the company‘s competitors. The L-3 scanners were found to be substandard by DOT’s inspector general; FAA tests of the scanners showed high failure rates; and most have not yet been installed because of their defects (the one at the Dallas--Fort Worth airport -- another of Linda‘s clients -- leaked radiation), which is a major reason DOT says it won’t be able to screen all luggage for explosives for years to come.

Thanks Linda. Thanks Tom. And these are now the people (who are joined at the hip) that we want to trust to "do something" about health care? If their past history is any indicator, this could be a disaster, at best, and could be nothing more than the same-old-same-old influence peddling in DC that has always been part of the landscape.

The Daschle Power Base is NOT about the kind of change that I think we would all say we need... [-X

Here Comes Hillary!

Postby You Can Call Me Ray » Sat Nov 22, 2008 2:11 pm

Yet another person who not only does NOT indicate the CHANGE that was promised, but this is another sign that he is beholden to the Dem Party that got him elected.

So Ryan: Are you willing yet to admit that you, and others, have been duped by the whole "Audacity of Propaganda" into thinking things were really going to be different in DC? You were the one who was saying that the US image had to be "fixed" abroad... well, the very person you did NOT want to become President is now the person who is going to try to "fix" our image? Maybe she actually WILL come under sniper fire on some of her trips! LOL!

And we are also seeing Bill Richardson's rise... another familiar face to DC politics. Can't wait to see the "wonderful" laws that come out of this entire Dem Exec-Legis juggernaut....rapid fire socialist policies? I saw a news story that was suggesting that with our current economic woes that "the US cannot avoid becoming a much more socialist-style country and that most people will accept it." Not this person!

I just heard that news that he picked Hillary-Rotten-Clinton as Secretary of State, I just about puked when I read it. I'm disgusted. That's all I'm going to say at the moment. Again - the man isn't even President yet, so I'm not going to damn him - but if this is any indication, then his leadership is going to be just as bad or worse as the last buffoon that was just in office.

It is not the man who needs to be damned, Ryan. It is the Party that he is beholden to that needs to be damned. By most counts of his appointees, it looks like we are swinging back way past center. What I am wondering is how much more of this oscillation between Dem/Repub/Dem that our country can handle. We already seem to be at the breaking point. I can't wait to see where Howard Dean shows up... Tom Daschle makes me as ill as Hillary makes you.

And Here Comes Bill... AGAIN!

Postby You Can Call Me Ray » Sun Nov 30, 2008 7:08 pm

Oh Jeeeezus!!! #-o

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2008/11 ... nate-seat/

But with Hillary Clinton expected to be named President-elect Obama's secretary of state on Monday, Bill Clinton can still capitalize on his wife's political success by taking over her New York Senate seat.

Now that would be a double-dose of "change"... Score another major power victory for the Republicratic Party!

Robert Shapiro, a professor of political science at Columbia University, said the most appealing part of the job for Bill Clinton, who is known for being long-winded, might be the lack of time restraints on making speeches on the Senate floor.

Just what this country needs at this time... another time-wasting windbag clogging up the Senate! And then his lying, power-hungry wife out there globetrotting the world advancing her power base.

But the most fascinating scenario, according to Cunningham, would be Bill Clinton heading the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and interviewing his wife on her actions as secretary of state.

And people thought nepotism had reached its cresendo with the Bush family... you ain't seen nuttin' yet!

All the political analysts interviewed for this story agreed that Clinton would make for an effective senator but doubt he would be interested.

Quick! Somebody go fetch a gaggle of fat, ugly interns to keep Bubba busy!!!

Zelizer hinted that Clinton might have fun going back to Congress to wreak havoc on lawmakers who voted to impeach him for the Monica Lewinsky scandal and the Paula Jones lawsuit.

Of course...because we all know the main business of the US Congress is personal vendettas! The country is in such good shape that we can now take time for the various factions of Dems to war with each other, just like the Repubs fettered away their political capital!

But revenge fantasies aside, Clinton, who has only held executive positions in his political career, might have more interest in being governor of New York or mayor of New York City.

"In some ways, the mayor of New York City has more glamour and prestige," Zelizer said. "You could see him finding that attractive. He could recreate what he had at the White House. You could see him very comfortable in that role. That's more logical for a former president."

Yeah. Perfect. You New Yorkers love the Clintonistas so much, why not keep your dirty laundry confined to your own state, rather than burdening the rest of the country with it! LOL

C'mon Ryan... I think you know why. I can appreciate that you might not wish to face it, but the answer is the politics of the party machine. I can sympathize with you that you did, indeed, have great HOPE for Obama. I can certainly understand that you desperately wanted CHANGE with your entire being. But I am also enough of a realist to see that you will never, EVER get real change out of either of the two party political machines. I can also assure you that my own resolution to give up on the Republican Party altogether was and will remain very real. I voted for Bob Barr. Some may call it a "wasted vote"...but if I am still free to vote my conscience, and my conscience is telling me that I need to lodge my protest and complaint with how totally effed-up these two parties have made our country, then my vote was not wasted.

You've been "had" by a career pol. And the manner in which he ignored the valid question of how he could select Hillary after making fun of her Foreign Policy experience during the campaign... well, let's just say that this video from Campbell Brown, I think, says it well.

Here Comes Bill Richardson!

Postby You Can Call Me Ray » Tue Dec 02, 2008 9:08 pm

Cast another vote for NO CHANGE HERE!

Let's see... by my count, Obama's cabinet now includes THREE of his former foes for the Democratic Nomination:

Biden - Veep
Hillary - Sec of State
Richardson - Sec of Commerce

And another died-in-the-wool Democrat who always wanted to be Prez but couldn't because of his wife's dealings:

Daschle - Sec of HHS

So you bent over backwards, Mr. Obama, to convince people how a vote for your opponents was not a vote for change... and yet here they all are, feeding at the trough of your new administration. Some change! Same ole, same ole! All we need now is for you to give Chris Dodd a post... nahh, come to think of it, he will do more service to you and your Demtard friends by continuing to yield his power over the Senate Banking Committee, that same power that helped "fix" Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac! [-X

This is so sad, it is comical. (Gotta laugh because the only other response would be to cry!)

Even HILLARY Gets a Bail-Out!!!

Postby You Can Call Me Ray » Fri Dec 05, 2008 4:11 pm

ROTFLMFAO!!!!

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/electio ... nton-debt/

'Tis the season to bail out stupid people who got into debt they could not handle, I guess!

President-elect Barack Obama's vast list of donors is being asked to donate to Hillary Rodham Clinton as she scrambles to reduce her massive campaign debt before she becomes secretary of state and federal ethics rules limit her fundraising, an Obama adviser said Thursday night.

Yes. Let us not worry about ethics until you have the job that you have to be ethical in... until then, let's just "bend the rules" and act like politicians always act! :? The fact that Obama is actually calling for this is now all the evidence anyone should need to understand he is no different than any of the other liars, thieves, and cheaters who beg for your vote and promise the moon.

Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, will headline a major debt retirement event in New York Dec. 15 with "Ugly Betty" star America Ferrera as master of ceremonies.

Ugly Betty... How apropos... on so many levels!

"If nothing else, there's the embarrassment element," Smith said. "A secretary of state trying to raise campaign money is kind of ugly."

Ugly Hillary!

Tickets range from $50 to $1,000, with top donors earning a premium seat and a backstage photo with the former first lady.

Clinton also plans to sell a children's book, titled "Dreams Taking Flight" by author Kathleen Krull, about her pioneering candidacy. Clinton's mother, Dorothy Rodham, planned to send an e-mail to supporters later this week asking them to purchase the book to help raise funds to pay down Clinton's debt.

Quite honestly, I cannot understand how this kind of shameless pandering cannot upset people. Come on! Everyone was all rabid at the oil companies back in the $4/gal+ days, and wanting to take money away from them... and they were actually providing a product for the profit they were making! Hillary just amassed a big debt as a result of an attempt at power... power she is even getting, albeit in a diluted position, and now she wants Obama backers to pay it off? If others cannot see that as worse than anything the oil companies do, then I am afraid you have drank the political kool aid.

Many Americans are losing their homes, mostly because they took on debt they could not afford. Banks get a bailout, Detroit's Big 3 may get a bailout, and now even Hillary is getting a bailout for being stupid (and greedy)... just like those homeowners.

Enjoy your new "rockstar" President... I am still hoping that, like all past presidents, I will find SOMETHING he does that I like. But so far, with the DEM idiots he is surrounding himself with, and borderline crooked tactics to bail them out of debt before they can no longer raise funds for themselves, I am highly skeptical.

To anyone who thinks "change" comes from moving from one corrupt Party to the other, I have two names for you:

Charlie Rangel
Rod Blagojevich

I can guarantee you there will be more to come...and let's not forget William Jefferson from Louisiana. Both parties are supremely broken (Ted Stevens, Duke Cunningham). Are there good people in both? Yes. But the bad deeds of the bad people in both parties overshadow any good. They are party machines. The sooner we figure out how to blatantly take power away from these parties, the better. But I am not holding out hope that the majority of Americans are smart enough to do this. It seems the majority of my countrymen get sucked in by political rhetoric on one side or the other.

Wish I could afford the Marlon Brando solution...

Time to Admit: Obama has drank the Kool Aid!

Postby You Can Call Me Ray » Fri Dec 12, 2008 3:03 pm

Ryan and AD:

I know you have been holding out HOPE for the POTUS-elect. But on one count, I now believe it is time for you to admit that Obama is already acting as a puppet for Al Gore and his band of science-destroyers. I could have put this in the AGW thread, but I honestly believe it belongs here because this now shows that Obama is "committed" to something upon which the science is shaky, at best, and an outright fabrication, at worst. Here:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 02872.html

Wednesday, December 10, 2008; Page A10
NO SIGN OF AN OFFICIAL ROLE
Gore Talks Climate Change With Obama and Biden

And the damning words in the article:

President-elect Barack Obama met with former vice president Al Gore in Chicago on Tuesday to discuss climate change, declaring after the meeting, "The time for denial is over."

(snip)

"All three of us are in agreement that the time for delay is over," Obama told reporters as he sat between Gore and Biden at the transition headquarters after the meeting.

"We all believe what the scientists have been telling us for years now," Obama said, "that this is a matter of urgency and national security, and it has to be dealt with in a serious way. That is what I intend my administration to do."

Just what you would expect of a pol: Forget the fact that more and more scientists (many of whom are not getting federal and/or UN handouts to "prove global warming") are raising the level of dissent against the manufactured AGW claims. Instead, just follow the lead of your political mentor, AlGore "I invented the internet and am not a scientist but I play one in the movies."

Obama is now admitting he has drank the Kool Aid, he is fully onboard with the bullcheese AGW claims, and intends to push these stupid ideas at a time where our economy cannot afford ANYTHING that penalizes business. But oh, don't worry, just like you would expect from a pol, he will put his political spin on it:

http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/ ... R920081210

President-elect Barack Obama said on Tuesday attacking global climate change is a "matter of urgency" that will create jobs as he got advice from Al Gore, who won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work on the issue.

Sure...it might create some jobs. But why are we conspicuously not talking about the jobs (and businesses) that it will hand a new bill to who can least afford it at this time???? (Answer: Because that is what pols do...highlight their perceived good and ignore any bad.)

In remarks to reporters, Obama made clear he would adopt an aggressive approach to global warming when he takes over the White House on January 20.

He and Vice President-elect Joe Biden met for nearly two hours with former Vice President Gore at Obama's presidential transition office in Chicago.

Gore does not need a position in the administration as long as he can act as the grand AGW puppetmaster from behind the scenes! Makes me sick. As I said before, Al Gore is and should be considered nothing more than another "special interest" who now clearly has the incoming President's ear. They will continue to attack scientists and others who point out where the data does not support global warming. This is not what I want in a President in a time of economic strife. No way, no how.

Will you two admit Obama's massive mistake in this yet?

And the outright, without-a-question most stupid belief Gore and his idiots hold? Right here:

Gore and his group are in line with most U.S. environmental groups, which believe the Obama administration has a chance to stem global warming.

Right. I suppose now that the data is showing the planet is cooling again (and that there is no evidence to suggest the prior trend had anything to do with CO2) that they will start to claim victory???? [-X

I will absolutely 100% admit that Obama is attempting to appeal to the more popular opinion of Mr. Faulty-Science Al Gore. He's certainly playing the political game. Then again, he's a trained lawyer, not a scientist or engineer...so he may simply not know any better. Maybe someone needs to educate our new president that Al Gore is actually wrong, despite his popularity among the ignorant? lol...

This whole thing is so much like every other field of the paranormal and any fringe science. So many con artists take advantage of the fact that so much of the population is ignorant about the science - and they gain tremendous financial rewards from that ignorance. It's sickening.
