I suspect it's because they wanted to handicap anyone but staff from being able to easily find out what all someone has been up to... or being able to lookup they're own posts. If “someone” was abusing it then why not just deal with that person? Sounds to me more like a control issue that gives the advantage to hoaxers and liars...
