Following on from Shawna's info I found this on ATS

Whistle Blower Protocol for ATS

http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread345480/pg1

And even Herr Grupenfuhrer Springer posts to it?

Posts to it saying, "I think this is a good idea BUT..."

Whoulda thunk Mark would have any objections to an anti-hoaxing policy?

Whistle Blower Protocol for ATS

Defense Thanks you for the favor. Springer's second post is an excellent personal statement as to what he believes a hoax to be.

The real problem shows up with the first statement, first post, page 5.

And even .................. Springer posts to it?

Not really. I will give the plaintiffs a return favor. A whistle-blower, a REAL one, is "trouble", in all caps, and for all concerned. Even themselves. Doing this by memory, a "real" whistle-blower did show up there once, I think before Springer was other than a normal member. All heck broke loose. Second time I ever saw things getting deleted. The end result was a loss of even conversations about IT. There are not many crumbs left around now and even a reference to one, I think, will result in a vacuum cleaning. I do believe the whistle-blowing in that case involved sensitive (classified ?) photo (s?) being posted with commentary. Assuming from what I observed, and snippets that sometimes show up, the consequences for ALL concerned were not very nice and unlikely to be allowed to repeat, no matter what anyone there posts along these lines, management included.

A popular, and very supportive ATS member was banned, ATS staff were highly stressed, and very likely far worse - rumors were wild, now gone of course.

Well, I think, in context, everyone is talking about whistleblowers justifiably suspected of being hoaxers, which is what 99% of all so-called whistleblowers on ATS. Furthermore, what really gets me is that Mark claimed at the end of the SERPO fiasco that the ATS T&Cs constituted a hard line against hoaxing. The current policy seems rather like hoaxing laissez faire.
