Hypothetical

Postby AussieMike » Sun Jul 04, 2010 7:23 am

I couldnt find an option for starting a poll, so i started this thread instead.

Ill start by asking you to read this article

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/scien ... 92555.html

and just as strongly contends that, using a combination of grave-site DNA and future technologies, he will be able to reclaim his father, Fredric Kurzweil (the victim of a fatal heart attack in 1970), from death.

Just when will this ultimate life-affirming feat be possible? In Kurzweil's estimation, we will be able to upload the human brain to a computer, capturing "a person's entire personality, memory, skills and history", by the end of the 2030s; humans and non-biological machines will then merge so effectively that the differences between them will no longer matter

My question is..... would YOU do it, would you upload yourself to a "brain frame" computer at the point of death if given the oppertunity.

Or would you take your chances with god or oblivion.......

Ah, the old quest for the computing singularity...

the IEEE had a whole series of articles on this a while back... good stuff...

http://spectrum.ieee.org/static/singularity

Anyway, this isn't the realm of sci-fi anymore... they're quite seriously discussing the possibility of creating consciousness within a computer program... a few of those articles actually discuss what 'consciousness' in a machine would 'look' like... it doesn't really resemble human conciousness in any way that we'd recognize though...

The exciting prospect comes into play when they theorize that they'll be able to use nanotechnology to completely 'map' the human brain by 2030... which is what leads to this 'uploading' of your brain into a computer...

IMHO, I'm all for it... especially after reading what human consciouness in a machine would look like...

Imagine your great grandkids pulling out a computer program, and asking you questions...questions that you could then answer as you would today...

Think of the possibilities of opening up Stephen Hawkings v 1.0 on your laptop, and asking him questions about the universe...

There's also a very real possibility that in 50 years or so, we will be able to reconstruct our own bodies from the molecular level using nanotechnology...

I'd vote 'yes' a hundred times and more to the 'brainframe' computer :D

Nope, not even interested in doing a brain drain, er, upload, er whatever you call it. (I recall reading somewhere that's how the greys came about and their claims of "we are you in the future", don't remember where though). I've also read that reincarnation is a fact whether you believe in it or not (Seth/Jane Roberts books). I tend more toward the reincarnation side but without all that karma junk as some sort of punishment system.

The troll is here one one reason only...to troll me because he does not like my opinion.

He has become what he professed to abhor....

Wow...I don't know pack3tg0st from Adam (as I've said often I only read a thread post or two from OM when someone forwards me a link to check out) - so I don't know why the animosity toward him (although if he's an OM mod I'm sure it's justified..lol).

From your description he sounds like 99% of folks from most conspiracy theory/Ufology forums - is he one of those who has been banning people for publishing their opinions that doesn't promote the Source A hoax?
