Bob Collins inadvertently supports RU expose #9

Postby Hidden Hand » Sat Oct 07, 2006 1:45 am

Thanks to set-up by OM mod jeddyhi, playing a marvelous straight man, Collins explains how viral marketing really works.

Here's jeddyhi's wind-up:

From: john hicks <jeddyhi@yahoo.com>
Subject: RE: New RU Release #9: "Project SERPO" was a viral marketing campaign!

I find it hard to believe that this Serpo saga has not been about disclosure in general, but rather a long drawn out hoax to sell a book that is only doing mediocre at best ( no offense intended, Mr. Collins). If I am to understand this correctly, Serpo has been a year long hoax to sell a book that shows no signs of a viral marketing campaign in its sales number. A simple advertisment in a UFO magazine would certainly do a better job at promotion than a Serpo viral marketing scheme.

Au contraire, mon frere!

Putting an ad in a UFO mag costs $$$, right? What has Serpo cost? 0 dollars, 0 cents.

The point of viral marketing is to expend the least amount of money, get the buzz going, and then see your project on the big screen (or the small screen works also).

I'll spell it out after Collins spills the beans:

From: Mc <Figaro@donet.com>
Subject: Re: New RU Release #9: "Project SERPO" was a viral marketing campaign!

What's in that book so impressed Duane Tudahl, Producer
for the History Channel's UFO Files, that the Chapter on WP will be in
the History Channel show called Hangar 18. As Duane tells me the EFD
Book will be the only book shown in that Hangar 18 broadcast.

So, contrary to jeddyhi's assertion that the marketing is not working - it worked perfectly!!

No money spent -
Feed the buzz -
Cover of UFO magazine!
A whole show on History Channel featuring only EFD!

What is that in terms of promotion?? A *free* hour long ad for Collins and EFD, broadcast worldwide.

Surely jeddyhi can see that that was actually more effective than "a simple ad in a UFO magazine"??

Is this a private fight, or can anyone join in?

Did someone mention a book? A movie? About Serpo?
I wonder who has the rights to that story? Oh.....here it is:

The latest below, from Dan SMith's blog, is way beyond my capacity
to understand (in full). It seemed "relevant" to this thread, though, so
perhaps it is useful for others. As for me, I am hereby declaring
a fictional story line about 12 or 13 people going to Serpo in 1965 and
returning (most of them) some 13 years later. And, that this was a part
of an alien/human exchange program (akin, I suppose, to student
exchange programs between foreign countries). My storyline, which
could turn out to be a book or a movie, includes fumbling efforts to
disclose this truth via an email list hosted by a guy with a webtv connection.

by Gene Roddenberry to legally secure his fictional story outlines...before
he ever registered with the Writers Guild).

Of course I am joking, btw, for those who may not be discerning that.
