Re: Now this is interesting

A little over 6 months ago, I gave ATS (meaning Bill, Mark and their whore Stephen) a year before they sold out completely and publicly.

They didn't disappoint.

How this can surprise anyone, I do not know.

As far as Simon goes, I have my doubts as to how much he actually does receive financially from ATS these days. I have the sneaking suspicion that he was taken advantage of by Bill Irvine and his b*tch. Personally, I feel that he remains as a "figurehead" of sorts either due to some contractual issue or to keep him from "telling all" in regards to the truth behind ATS these days. Of course, this is speculation on my part but would certainly explain his lack of enthusiasm for "his" site. It certainly seems strange that Bill and Mark so vehemently tout THEIR (yes, THEIR) forum and the advances it has made while the creator doesn't really seem to give a damn. Simon is a young guy and Bill is a seasoned businessman. Wouldn't have taken much effort for him to totally (and legally) screw Simon out of his brainchild.

If that's the case, I feel for Simon. Even if it's not, I still respect the guy and have no problem with him at all.

However, Bill Irvine and Mark Allin are businessmen and they care not about the membership of ATS so long as the numbers remain where they want them to be.

I have said, time and time again, that trolls are more valued at ATS than the "good" members because of the numbers they represent. It is my opinion that this is why so many "good" members seem to be so quickly shut down as the result of "issues" they have with trolls and the staff.

10 trolls are far better than 1 valued member in the eyes of Bill Irvine and Mark Allin.

It's all about the numbers.

Oh well, who really cares these days? ATS sucks now and has for quite some time.

Just look at the front page at any given time of the day/week/month. It's a freaking joke.

As I said at Amkon, they make GLP look better and better everyday.

I think you may be right about Simon, but his lack of personal responses to me of late have left me feeling a little doubtful of his own intentions. I mean if he had e-mailed me saying "sorry Ross I don't deal with these issues any more and have forwarded them on" then I would have understood, but to just ignore my mail is nothing short of rude.

As for the others, well they showed their true colours last week. I have notified RW of how I feel he may be being used and its up to him whether he chooses to listen or not.

Amusing quirk of fate.....

I have just received a call from EMTV, the channel that air my TV show and the tape of this Saturday's show has gone AWOL. Now the strange thing is that one of the guests pre-recorded for this week's planned programme was Martin Bain who does an ATS radio show and talked about the ATS forums in his interview! It would have been the final bit of free publicity that ATS got out of me and now another show will air in its place featuring my interviews with Troggs lead singer Reg Presley and Ann Andrews, mother of the famous "abductee" and "Indigo child" Jason Andrews.

Fate deals some strange cards!

I agree - although at times I've been so busy that I haven't responded to folks, so I'm at fault for the same rudeness often. However, I've never simply forwarded something on for someone else to deal with (as far as I can remember) without sending a quick response to the sender saying something like, "I'm just to swamped, so Steve may be dealing with this issue." ...or something like that.

To ignore you and just forward it on without comment tells me that he's essentially lost interest, or he's lost passion, for his "baby."

A lot of folks consider becoming a "for-profit" company a form of selling out. While the argument could be made that since S.O. decided to do this thing full time, he wants to make it work for him as at least a decent source of income. However, people who work for non-profits also get paid an income. ATS could have easily become a non-profit organization with the vision of seeking to further the lofty (and honorable) goals that "Deny Ignorance" stands for. This would be furthering education, enhancing intelligent discourse between witnesses, researchers, and scientists on all matters related to the paranormal...and other such activities. The activities wouldn't be centered around "generating profit," instead they would be focused on achieving the goals which the organization was founded on (goals, by the way, that must of us "fair-minded skeptics" used to have a great deal of respect for). A lot of non-profits do a lot of wonderful work out there, and people do make an income working for them - it's just that the overall goal of the org is not to generate profit for shareholders.

A "for-profit," on the other hand, is always driven by the pressures of investors/shareholders to not only generate profit, but also increase profit each subsequent year. This is why so many people consider it "selling out."

I don't know why the decision was made to form ATS into a for-profit company, but you know, some people wouldn't be content with simply drawing a modest "income" from working for a non-profit. Some people have dreams of being a CEO with a multi-million dollar income, with stock options and a private jet, and sitting on top of one of the largest paranormal media powerhouses in the world. Are those dreams realistic? Who the hell are we to say? Are they honorable dreams? I don't know - tell me how many "good things" have been accomplished for society by CEOs, and profit-driven corporations... We'll need to start by trying to ignore Enron, Exxon, environmental and cultural pollution, and on, and on, and on.... In my own humble opinion, the most honorable and worthwhile work has always been (and continues to be) accomplished by non-profits. For-profits more commonly contribute to the social ills of laziness, lazy-thinking, and a lifestyle centered around consumption with little thought as to the quality or nutrition of what goes into our homes, our mouths, or our heads.

And that's my soapbox for the month. See you next month. :)

By the way, we do remain a "non-profit," and swallow a bit of loss every month (poor Steve...), so please be kind and either donate, or click a few ads and visit the advertisers. :)

Just to clarify....

I don't consider turning a profit on a site such as ATS "selling out".

I do, however, consider it selling out when you "hurt" your dedicated membership to turn MORE of a profit.

I have a slight issue with "biting the hand that feeds".

I was about to point out the your posts were 'off-topic' and then I remembered... THIS IS NOT ATS!!! LOLOLOLOLOL.

It's my thread and I don't care if you post off=topic or a one-liner or say what you want - isn't that great! Anyone wanting to bring the topic back is quite welcome to but so is saying what you want when the thread leads that way.

I firmly beleive there goal is to claw there way to the top by shoveling over there undieing love of there rabble by trampling down good folks who build the ATS reputation into what it has become, for the big league money bags of super stardom. We were expendable on there rise to the top.

By the way, did you know ATS makes $548.00 a day with clicks. Now, with williams that should double, triple, quadruple.....

I got it from a domain name value calculator site that somehow had the google adsense value for ATS as well as the value of the domain which was in the millions.... update on name value not in millions but actually abovetopsecret.com Estimated Worth $382804.7 USD. The $548.00 daily click value is based on clicks and I found the site I quoted my original numbers from with current update click values shows
Net Worth : $382804.7
Last updated Today
Daily Pageview : 174797
Daily Ads Revenue : $524.39

Thanks Gig,

Not sure how much faith I would put into those calculator thingies though... I just now tried a number of them for ATS and got a wide range of numbers,,, from less than a quarter million up to three million bucks total value... that's a pretty wide range, ya know? Same ranges for ad revenue... from not so much to over inflated...

This one has a history graph I find interesting:

http://www.yourwebsitevalue.com/details ... t_com.html

according to them the value of ATS has been dropping steadily for a while now...

This one:

http://www.dnscoop.com/

gave an IP report:

abovetopsecret.com has the IP address: 75.126.76.151
We found 9 other sites hosted on the IP address 75.126.76.151

1 ) Northern Tool + Equipment
2 ) abovepolitics.com
3 ) abovetopsecret.com
4 ) belowtopsecret.com
5 ) conspiracyvid.abovetopsecret.com
6 ) nwocomic.abovetopsecret.com
7 ) nwovid.abovetopsecret.com
8 ) paranormalvid.abovetopsecret.com
9 ) ufovid.abovetopsecret.com

Northern Tool + Equipment?? Mojo might have fun with that one...

Anyway, using the various freebie calculators is fun (and informative) but I'd be reluctant to put too much faith in them given the wide range of numbers they seem to generate... Some list a daily ad revenue over twice what you listed, others, only a fifth...

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me so quickly with your source of info, tha's too cool comrade.

Now I'm gonna go see how worthless My site is *laughs*

laters
twj

addendum:

*laughs*

okay, after some playing... The freebie calculators really are Whack... some of 'em have ME (torbtown.com) listed as a mega dude, and brother I ain't... and I get a total value range between 100 and 1000 bucks,,, that's a Huge range, ya know?

Query: Were you using a freebie tool or a paid for service? I would imagine the paid for services would / should be a bit more accurate...

Regardless, it's still a fun experiment... and the Northern Tool + Equipment thing.. hmmm...

oh well, beddy bye for this bozoboy,

Okay, I Really gotta go but,,,

ya, that was one of the ones I looked at (for me and them) I can tell you the 28 cent a day thing for my site is no where Near close to the reality. I make exactly $0.00 per day. I got one click thru way back when for some high paying ad (don't have a clue how That got into the mix) that got me a penny, and my balance still stands at one penny *shrugs*

As mentioned, some of those thingies have me worth 100 bucks, others a 1000... moot to me as I wouldn't sell even fer a million.

Perhaps adding up all of the various values generated by the various calculators and then averaging that number Might give folks a decent 'ball park' figure, but I feel that's the best anyone could get from those...

must sleep now...
