Good read. Although there is a small correction or I may be wrong.

The Buddhist religion takes that one step further, explaining that residence in heaven is temporary, with a rebirth as humans or animals signalling the start of a new life.

The closest thing Buddhists regard as "heaven" is Nirvana. That would be closer described as a state of being as opposed to a place and it ends the cycle of rebirth.

With that said the only groups that have come back and said what happens after dead are not believed. The closest thing to a scientific approach has been the "21 grams" experiment by MacDougall. Unfortunately he was attacked by ATS style skeptics and in their infinite wisdom decided to attack the experiment instead of discrediting it with an experiment of their own (i believe that is part of the scientific method). Sadly to date nobody has duplicated the experiment.
